It's hard to believe Mae started her film career at 38. And a bit amazing. I was reading about her, and I wonder if nowadays she would have kept her birth-name "Mary Jane" rather than switch to "Mae." I think she would have found it amusing.

Well, she had a career as a stage actress apparently. You may know this, but when they started filming with sound, they recruited tradition stage actors for films whereas they hadn't before. Bette Davis was another example.
