Just when I thought Michelle Bachmann had a lock on the Whack Job Politician Status in Minnesota, along comes this one.

This week, the What the Bachmann crew looks at the Fifth Congressional District, where Representative Keith Ellison is being challenged by Republican Joel Demos. As assistant pastor at the Christian Life Center in Golden Valley, Joel predicted that the world would end in 2009. It didn’t, so Joel has decided to get political and run for Congress.

Since this campaign is Joel’s first stab at politics, nobody really knows much about him. Luckily, his parents wrote an article for ApostolicNews.org introducing his candidacy to the evangelical community. Titled “Pentecostal Joel Demos Takes on Muslim Ellison,” his parents’ article explains that Joel reads articles by Karl Rove and has met Sean Hannity, which seem to be the two most important qualifications for Congress, in their view. And in Joel’s sermons , he praises George W. Bush and plumps for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq — because “the spirit of the anti-Christ is on the rise.”
