I was told this morning that my friend that had the Halloween party that I went to now thinks she has Swine Flu.

Now I am really hoping that what I have is simply a plain old cold. :o

I have never wanted a simple cold so bad in my life. :o

I'm hoping you only have a cold, too; take care & go see a doctor if you feel worse....

From what I have read, heard, and seen (I've known a few friends who had the N1H1 strand) it isn't as serious as everyone is under the impression that it is. Hell, from what I've been told it's about as serious as the same flu strands that have been floating around for years. I could be wrong, but I don't see where Swine Flu is so scary/deadly. Alas, feel better, Jon!!!!

I have been hearing reports too that you just need to take care of yourself, and it should work itself out.
I think there is more to worry about if you have underlying medical conditions.

I'm thinking you're right, Jon. I'm pretty sure if you have something serious it will be much worse, but if you're an average and healthy person it won't affect you much more than the stock standard flu.

I've read that swine flu is nothing more than a mild flu. A lesser evil of the typical strain.

If it helps, it is a FACT that Donald Rumsfeld owns stock in the company that developed the vaccine, Tamiflu. (http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/tamiflu.asp)

It isn't a far stretch for me to believe that the reason this strain got so much attention and it's severity is being blown out of proportion through fear-mongering was because another scandalous participant in the Bush Administration wanted to get rich.

Anyhow, do feel better and take care. Being sick sucks no matter how mild the symptoms are. *hugs*

The article you posted has several inaccuracies about the biology of influenza.

Swine flu is actually a bad flu-- but not a "deadly" flu as first purported. Also, tamiflu is not a vaccine, but an anti-viral drug. It's actually a poor drug, but it's the best at what it does.

I can't comment on whether the media attention is a plot to make Rumsfeld rich. I'm sure he didn't make as much off that as Cheney has sending his companies into Iraq.

re inaccuracies: Not sure which part of the article you're referring to.

I can't find anything in my search results that says swine flu is a bad flu. Everything I'm finding says that it is a mild flu or roughly equivalent to the average strain that goes around each year.

With the media attention coming so early on the possibility of this flu coming around a year ago and calling it a possible killer pandemic, Rumsfeld is rich.

Back when the reports were first coming out, one of the big questions from the CDC was basically "why the f*ck is this even being reported as such. At this point it's a non-issue." The press under the previous administration kept pushing it. People are flocking to get some Tamiflu, and the governement has just spend an incredible amount to have it available to the public. He scored big time.

It doesn't surprise me that another Bushite is making money off a problem in this country. UGH...
Another thing that bothers me is there is only one company that makes the children's Tamiflu liquid and the government won't move to open it up to generic products. The pharma' companies seriously do own Our government. ARGH..............

I'm a scientist, not a political analyst. I research influenza, not Rumsfeld's bank account. If you want me to dissect various articles on the internet- I don't have the time for it. But please don't be making claims about the nature of influenza that are just misinformation propagated by the media and internet, okay?

Go to the doctor and request Tamiflu, ASAP. It'll help marginally, at least.

So far I am hoping it's just another chest cold. I am not feeling any worse tonight than I was last night.
*fingers crossed*
