Is the Blush Off the Peach.........

People are upset about this and I think they deserve to be.
It's looking like the Newbie, is just another politician.
One thing that bothers me most about this is how some people are saying, he's reaching out to everybody, and "we" should reach a hand out too. Excuse me, by why is it always "we" that have to reach out and accept the other hand? Especially when most of those hands would just as soon cut ours off.
Okay, maybe I shouldn't have read that article on Christmas Eve. I knew it would just make me mad. :(
But as far as I am concerned, President Obama is the one that has to put his hand out to "us" now.
Ignore my ramblings and enjoy your Christmas's. :)

Date: 2008-12-24 02:50 pm (UTC)Second, Obama has ALWAYS campaigned and marketed himself as a centrist, and that's why he got elected. He's stated that he believes in anti-discrimination laws and civil unions, but he never promised to the the saviour of the LGBT community once he got into office. I seriously don't think this is so much a case of "Obama misled us!" as it is that people's expectations of Obama were FAR too high to begin with. The higher the pedestal, the greater the fall and I think that's what's happening here.
Honestly there are so many things happening in the world right now that are WORTHY of getting riled up about (poverty, lack of health care, Darfur, I could go on and on and on) that I really wish people would just get over this whole inauguration thing. No offense.

Date: 2008-12-24 03:43 pm (UTC)I am not totally sure why it upsets me. The simple fact that he doesn't support gay marriage was enough for me to know he wasn't going to Our savoir. :p Oh well.....

Date: 2008-12-24 03:51 pm (UTC)I know I sound more like a crochety old man than I really am here, but a big part of the problem is that we live in a society born and bred on instant gratification - I want it all and I want it NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW! It's all about ME and MY RIGHTS and what I want, etc. Know what I mean? Gay activists aren't getting everything they want right now, and it's making them angry. Anger and frustration are natural when one's rights are being denied - I feel it myself, OFTEN - but one thing that's easy to forget is, the "other side" isn't getting what they want either. The religious right, Rick Warren and his ilk, would love a federal amendment banning gay marriage, they'd love to take away parenting rights from gays on the national levels, and even to ban civil unions. They'd love to take evolution out of public schools and put mandatory prayer in its place. I think they're completely, utterly wrong but it's important to realize that in Obama they are losing a lot too.
I hope that makes sense.

I should be in bed if I am going to be up and enjoy the family and stuffing my face.
I hope your day goes quickly and you have a great, fantastic, super duper Christmas.
