Aug. 14th, 2007 01:09 amWell, I finally did it. I finished Harry Potter 7 over the weekend. YAY Me. :p
It was really good, but I wish she would have stopped before the Epiloge.
I think the Epiloge was so not necessary. It felt like an attempt to make things all sugary sweet at the end, or a blatant opening for the next series of books.
Will millions of people really buy books about the next generation?
Quesstion: Was the "baby/creature" that Harry saw when he was talking to Dumbledore the portion of Voldermot that had been in Harry? I don't know if I was just reading to fast or just wasn't grasping it when I read it, but I was a little confused about it.

No and yes
Date: 2007-08-14 06:40 am (UTC)However, your reading of the Epilogue was WAY off. The Epilogue was in place, because it PROHIBITS any further books.
J.K. Rowling has admited to maybe giving a book on the background of Hogworts, but has repeatedly stated that the series is indeed over. I wish people would understand this.
The Epiloge gave the reader insight to what happened 19 years later, and how characters faired out, but didn't go into specifics by any means. Because of the 19 year gap, there could possibly be NO rebirth of the series for 2 main reasons: 1) she would have to fill in the gap of the 19 years and 2) the enemy, the antagonist (Voldermort), is dead. Therefore to make conflict, to have some type of plot there would have to be a new guy, and J.K. knows this, and by killing off the MAJOR PLOT of the series, she thus ends it on a positive note.
I take it you have read the whole series?
Re: No and yes
Date: 2007-08-14 06:49 am (UTC)I just really think the book didn't need to Epiloge to close the series. I felt satisfied with how the book ended.
You don't think the next generation heading off to Hogwarts doesn't open a possible new story? Volde is gone, but maybe someone else might try to take his place. :p
Your playing with fire
Date: 2007-08-14 07:00 am (UTC)The next generation does not open a new story. Because, yet again, the 19 year gap between Voldermort death and the Epilogue would have to be closed.
More importantly, no one can take his (voldermort) place. Why? 1) There is no wizard (that we know of in the series (and creating a new one would be dumb) that would have the strength to take his place. I.e. there is no big dark wizard or powerful wizard left. Fromell (owner of the scorceres stone is dead)(book1), Prof. Dumbledore is dead, and voldermort is dead.
2) All the known devices to conqure death are destroyed or split up, not be recovered (i.e. the deathly hallows).
3) Voldermort was the only wizard known to have split his soul into pieces, which has been proven to be difficult to do. All of his soul pieces are GONE/Destroyed. He CAN'T come back, he can no longer conqure death.
4) His followers, although possibly in hiding, are unable to come out due to the ministery of magic finally getting thier act in order.

Date: 2007-08-14 09:42 am (UTC)She doesn't need to fill the 19-year-gap. She already has. If she chooses to write the next series, she has given all the background readers need in those few pages that were completely unnecessary.
If she did end up writing more, about the kids, I wouldn't call that a "rebirth". It would be a sequel. And if she chooses to write she might not need a major evil--she can expand the universe by giving various other types of adventures to the heroes of the story. Maybe make the series more kid friendly, even.
That said, I think she just made sure that fanfic writers can continue to torture readers with underage slash.

Valid
Date: 2007-08-14 11:03 am (UTC)I'm very much in the camp that believes the series is totally and utterly finished, as well as the camp that is sick and tired of hearing (she is going to continue the series).
As far as the private jet goes, remember she was an out of work single mother trying to make ends meet. The whole harry potter craze took her by storm, and although she has more $$ than her Royal Majesty the Queen Of England (long live the Queen)(minus the Queen Assetts), she has not used her wealth as an advantage.
