Minnesota State Fair.....
Aug. 26th, 2024 10:53 pmThis past Thursday was opening day, and my first visit to the Minnesota State Fair of 2024.
My friend, Val,
seekerval, was kind enough to babysit Maggie for me, and plans to this week as well.
Maggie and I drove up Wednesday afternoon and we spent the night at Val's.
I took off dark and early to park at the fair grounds. Parking doesn't open until 6 am, and I got there about 5:30 and there was already quite the line of cars. lol...
The fair grounds themselves do not open until 7 am, so I sat in the car and read in my book.
I headed in at 7 am and started wandering around. I headed for my mini donut place. Tradition for me is that mini donuts is the first thing I will eat at the fair.
I headed over for the Democrats booth to see what they had. They weren't quite open yet, so wandered down the street. About 8 am I made my way back to the DFL booth. It was packed, so I got in line. Four tshirts and two pins later I was on my way again.
I headed back towards the entrance I came in and took my stuff out to my car.
I was expecting Neil,
mrdreamjeans, about 9 am so I stayed in that area as he was coming on a shuttle bus.
I got myself another fair favorite, the Tator Tot Hotdish on a Stick.
Neil remembered his phone this year, lol..., and said he was running late because the parking lot he was at was packed full and so he was having to wait for his turn on a shuttle bus. I kept wandering around and doing some window shopping. So much yummy foods and so much fun looking things to buy.
Neil finally arrived about 10 am instead of the 9 am he was planning on.
We made our way up towards the DFL booth as he was interested in seeing what he could get as well. The place was still packed, and so Neil decided on breakfast instead. I sat with him and had a Rice Krispie bad. lol........
Back to wandering and trying to spend money like we had it. lol...
Back when I was still waiting for Neil, I came across the booth for Paisley Park, Prince's home/studio, and I picked up a tshirt and a dvd of a concert.
We went through the Fine Arts Building. It had gotten a face lift this year. New sidewalk entrance, new landscaping, and new windows.
It's one of the oldest buildings on the fairgrounds, if I remember correctly.
Some nice works this year, and of course some crazy prices if you wanted to shop. One picture was being sold for $24,000.
I Think Not........
We went over to check out the doggies, and Neil got his traditional tye dyed shirt. :)
More wandering. Felt a sprinkle or two here and there.
Neil was feeling hungry for lunch so we went through the Food Building. He got a burger and fries.
We went through the Horticulture Building. Didn't stay too long. It was PACKED.
We walked down towards the renamed Minnesota Star Tribune booth, it use to be the Minneapolis Star Tribune. I think they are trying to be more inclusive of outstate Minnesota. I got my free lip balm. This year it's Rhubarb Cobbler. I will add it to my collection, yes something else I collect. I don't like Rhubarb, so I won't try it. lol...
By now it was kind of a steady, but light rain so we headed into the Grandstand building to window shop in there. Again, it was PACKED, but we worked our way around. Got through to the other and and peaked outside, it was POURING rain. So we found and empty, believe it or not, bench and had a seat to try and wait out the rain.
We waited, and waited, and waited.
Finally gave up and went downstairs to check out the Nordic Ware baking booth. I am thinking about replacing some baking sheets. I didn't get anything, but will probably go back and pick up a few things. Really nice quality and it's made right here in Minnesota, to the best of my knowledge.
Still pouring outside. Neil decided to call it a day and get back home to his little pup, Bella, and I decided to call it a day and go back to Val's and pick up Maggie and head home.
Of course by the time I got back to Val's it had stopped raining. lol...
I chatted with Val for awhile and then bundled up Maggie to head home.
Well, that was a mistake, I got right into the middle of rush hour traffic trying to get out of Minneapolis. Next time I either have to leave earlier or hang around and leave later. :o It was stop and go traffic for a few miles.
Okay, here's what you have all been waiting for, The Food.....
Mini Donuts...

Tator Tot Hotdish on a Stick...

The Rice Krispie Bar...

And I had a glass of lemonade...
