A Day In The Life.......
Jul. 29th, 2023 09:17 amI was getting ready to go to work last night and the phone rang.
It was the nursing home calling to say that dad's breathing and his oxygen saturation was not good and their doctor thought he should be sent in to the hospital to be checked out.
I said, Yes of course.
Then I had to decide, do I call in at the last minute or go into work and hope they didn't float me and will understand that I need to check on dad.
I got to work and they had originally planned to float me, but changed their mind and had to assigned to sit with a patient on my station. I asked the charge nurse if he was a bad patient, and he said not really, so I explained what was going on with dad and he agreed I should go down and check on dad.
I got down there and dad was quite somnolent/sleepy.
After some tests they decided it was either Pneumonia and/or Urinary Tract Infection and/or COPD exacerbation.
They started him on some antibiotics and admitted him to the hospital.
I'm hoping the antibiotics will kick in and he will start improving.
After spending time with dad and staying to talk with the doctors that were seeing him, I went back to my own station and when I saw the charge nurse I told him I was really tempted to just go home, and he said you can if you want to, I took you off the schedule for the whole night. I told him it was okay, and I would stay for the end of the shift. It was just 3 hours.

Date: 2023-08-01 09:14 am (UTC)Does he have insurance?
They will try to take anything from his estate before it passes to his heirs.
When my Mom passed the nursing home was trying to strong arm us into paying everything off. My folks didn't believe in Life Insurance (aagghh) My house was secure so they couldn't touch it until I died. I sent them $200 a month as Dad had it, but I could have sent them $10 a month and they would have had to take it.

Date: 2023-08-02 08:15 am (UTC)He has insurance, but I don't know anything about the policy. One of the many things I need to try to find out about. Lady at the nursing home said if the kids are the beneficiaries the state/county will take the money, but if we can get it signed over to the funeral home, then they leave it alone.
Part of me says let them take it, if it's not too much to pay the nursing home bill. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
