A Day In The Life.......
Oct. 5th, 2022 06:39 pmTalk about a slap in the face...
Mayo Clinic boosting pay 6%, biggest jump in more than two decades
The raises from Minnesota's largest employer apply to its allied employees who perform jobs from nursing to maintenance. It comes amid labor shortages and general inflation.
The raises apply to about 64,500 allied health staff across the Rochester-based health system,
Great news, huh?
Yeah, this is a raise across the board for 64,500 employees, UNLESS you are one of their union employees, and then you get, excuse my blunt language, shit.
Yep, we are getting nothing simply because we are union employees.
Just a couple of months ago the union asked Mayo to negotiate a midcontract raise and Mayo flat out said NO.
Now suddenly they are offering EVERYBODY else 6%+ raise.
41 years of working for this company and this is what they think of me, and the rest of the union.

Date: 2022-10-07 12:53 pm (UTC)Wow, guess what? Since September we got a pay-rise because the country said so (and a few other jobs as well where it was necessary).

Date: 2022-10-07 01:29 am (UTC)They are a private company, so they can pretty much do as they please.
They are also the biggest employer in the state, not counting the state, so they have a lot of power.

Date: 2022-10-06 03:32 pm (UTC)I just got a raise from $13 to $15 an hour, they raised the minimum floor that they paid across the university for non-student employees, i.e. not work-study positions. And an email went out that because of the strength of the state budget, the chancellor put in to the legislature asking for an additional $1.50 an hour across the board for us. That would be a heck of a thing!
In every employee satisfaction survey that I received over my time here, I wrote in the comments, 'It would be nice to make as much as someone flipping burgers at Wendy's does.'

Sad to say, our union is kind of worthless. :(
