I sat with a patient last night and one of the main things to accomplish was to make sure he didn't pull out his NG, nasal gastic, tube. That's a tube that goes in your nose and down to your stomach. Those tubes are usually hooked up to suction and meant to keep your stomach empty, but they can also be used to give meds or feedings to patients as well.
This one was meant to keep the stomach empty.
When I started my shift I was told he had pulled it out twice, but seemed to have calmed down and was leaving it alone.
Well, I sat with him for 6 hours and he totally left the tube alone.
Then I went on my break.
I came back a half hour later and...
Yep, you guessed it, he pulled the tube out. What the BLEEP was the aide that was covering my break doing?
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was going to sue the hospital and everybody taking care of her. There was nothing wrong with her even though she just had surgery on her head. But when she started calling me a sexual pervert who only wanted to see her boobs, I went to the charge nurse and said I was not going to stay in that room. Because you know darn well that was only going to escalate. :o :o :o
So I got moved into another room with another confused patient who was at least more controllable. :o
I heard later that the other patient stripped her cloths off got of her room and then started to claim we were trying to rape her. Told you that would escalate. :o :o :o
They got a 72 Hour Hold put on her. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I so need a vacation from that place. :o :o :o
