I shouldn't have married a Scot then?
He'd have kittens here as there's a lot of interracial marriage going back a hell of a long way.

Date: 2022-03-23 03:47 pm (UTC)Here in the USA interracial marriage was only legalized nationally in 1967. It was legal in some states before that, such as California in 1948. In 1960 interracial marriage was forbidden by law in 31 U.S. states. Most of the laws in the US dealt with Whites marrying blacks, but some also included whites marrying Chinese, Native American and other 'race categories' as they claimed them
There were some unusual exceptions in some states... and strange classifications.
Pennsylvania allowed interracial marriage from 1780 onward, for example, and New Orleans allowed such from 1815 onward. Massachusetts from 1843 onwards.
Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Alaska, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia never enacted laws preventing interracial marriage.
There were also weird ways of categorizing people as to their racial status. Southern Italians & Sicilians were in the old south and certain other states were classified as Black or Mixed blood.
So anyway, my guess is this idiot "Conservative" knew exactly what he was saying (and he was born in 1954) and is a racist as well. He is now pretending it was a "States Rights" issue, something the twisted "sons of the south" always pull out when they want to do something that violates the Spirit or Letter of the Constitution to allow them to discriminate.
