A Day In The Life.......
Oct. 17th, 2019 01:55 amSo, better late then never...
Hmm, I seem to say that a lot...
Anyway, I went to see the rock group Heart this past Sunday. They are my favorite rock band. They had two opening acts. First was Lucie Silvas, who said she came from Nashville but originally came from England and Australia. I had never heard of her, but she wasn't too bad. She's kind of Pop/Country mix. The second opening act was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is a great rocker and I love her music. Finally it was Heart's turn. They are great rockers and Ann Wilson, imho, has one of the best voices in the business.
I am going to cheat a little now and give you the "review" that I just posted for Ticketmaster. :p
LOVE Heart, but not the Sound Mixing...
Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul
It was a night of bad sound mixing. The first opening act, Lucie Silvas was good, but the microphone on the base drum was turned up so high I thought it was going to change my heart rhythm. When they hit their first note I literally could feel the vibrations coming from the speakers, and it pretty much stayed that way through their whole set. The second opening act was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and they sounded just fine and well balanced. She obviously had her own sound mixer. When Heart came out, things slid backward again. IMHO, Ann Wilson's voice was the best instrument on stage, but all too often I could barely hear her. She was getting drowned out by the guitars. At first I thought, it's the final stop on the tour and maybe Ann's voice is suffering a bit, and they were trying to compensate for that by turning up the guitars, but as soon as she was singing without heavy guitar back up, I could her her fine and her voice would soar. I was so tempted to go back to the mixing board and tell them to turn down the guitars, but I figured they would have just laughed at me. As I said, I LOVE Heart, so it was really disappointing to have less then great production values for their show. Come back soon Ann and Nancy, but please bring a different sound mixer.
