A Day In The Life.......

disneydream06Saturday into Sunday I started sneezing up a storm.
Started feeling a lot of sinus pressure.
By Monday evening I was feeling kind of crappy, but I didn't want to call in sick to work because of the occurrence system that we use at work.
You are allowed 9 occurrences during a rolling 12 month period. If you hit 10, you are automatically fired.
After 12 months that individual occurrence will fall off.
The first three occurrences are nothing. With the 4th and 5th you get sent a written/email alert/warning that you have that many. At No. 6 you are sat down and talked to about them. I think he said that No. 7 was another freebie, but with No. 8 discipline is used, but I didn't pay attention to what that was. At No. 9 you can apparently be put on suspension. Then like I said at No. 10, you are fired.
This is the process that the No. 1 Clinic in the country uses to discipline their staff.
I stopped and talked to my nurse manager about it this morning, because I thought I was at 3 or 4. Obviously I am at three because I haven't been sent an email telling me I am at risk.
However, this morning at the end of my shift, I was beat, and feel miserable.
I am seriously considering saying screw it and calling in sick tonight, and getting No. 4.
Prior to December when I had my first one, I probably hadn't had an occurrence for about 2 years. I would think that would be taken into consideration, but obviously not. Nurse manager didn't seem impressed.
Only bad thing, besides the occurrence, is that tonight we are having a party for one of the good nurses that is leaving the station. :(
Nurse manager told me that elderberry juice/wine was very good for colds/your immune system. So I stopped at the grocery store and found some juice, syrup, and desolving tablets. $50 later, I am full of elderberry juice.
I hope I am feeling up to going in tonight for the goodbye party. :(
