A Day in the Life.........
Sep. 5th, 2018 11:38 amJust home from another doctor appointment for my dad at the VA.
Seriously that place needs to be charging for their roller coaster rides. :o :o :o
The nurse took us back and got dad signed in. Why do they have to check a weight every time? And then the docs all come in and ask if you have been losing weight? LOOK AT THE CHART!!!!!
Then the med student came and covers everything, how have you been? any pain? any problems? taking your meds? Then she leaves to get the resident.
The med student and the resident come in and basically wash rinse and repeat. The resident tells us that every thing has been coming back negative for cancer, but that they are worried that it still might be and that the biopsies are not showing anything because of the infection, that he is finally on antibiotics for. So they are talking about doing a PET Scan, which lights up areas of cancer, but that it can also light up areas of infection, so they might wait for the infection to clear up. Then they leave to go get the consultant.
Everybody comes back after a few minutes. Waiting in an exam room is boring and annoying. Consultant is here and we wash rinse and repeat every thing again. No cancer is showing, but he is confident that it is cancer. They do another scope down dad's nose. We rehash things and consultant says he is going to bring in another consultant to get a second set of eyes to look at things. So everybody leaves and we wait again.
Then the resident and the two consultants come back in and they discuss with the new consultant all the tests and results that have happened so far and the history of what is going on. New consultant looks at dad's neck and sits down in a chair and says that's not cancer. It maybe a growth/"tumor", but it's an infection not cancer. The two consultants chatted about all the things that should be looked at as possibilities and then that was basically it. They head out. The resident stays and talks a couple of minutes with us. I ask about the ultrasound that is scheduled for next week. She says unless the Infectious Disease doctor wants it, they will cancel it. She leaves, and we head for the car. :o :o :o
So now we apparently get passed off to Infectious Disease to try and figure out an infection that is causing all of this
Do we get to stop holding our breath about the cancer diagnosis?
Now I am off to bed to try and get some sleep as I am back to work tonight. YIPPY...
