it is important!

for a woman - any woman - to end a pregnancy is a heavy decision - even more for a catholic woman

a very necessary decision - but to know this necessity now cuts you off from your community - the community that you have grown up with - the parish where you made your sacraments

to be one again you had to go to the bishop - no, too overwhelming!!!

now a friendly understanding priest can restore that relationship

these are things a non-catholic may not be understand - but if one has been part of the group one can understand

I just think it's terrible that they think they have to "forgive" a woman.

IF you are a catholic and accept that abortion is sin - and many catholic women who practice birth control do not accept abortion
then a woman of that belief does feel she had sinned and must be forgiven
to confess the sin is to be assured of god's forgiveness - it is god who forgives not the priest

lifting the ban of excommunication is entirely different - excommunication is something of man not god - man says you are not a part of our group any more ( you have lost your club membership) - so someone representing the group has to say - ok you're back in

this is important to believers -
it has little meaning of you don't believe

Oh, well. At least is something. So glad I'm not catholic anymore, after attending a nuns school for 14 years I ended up really tired of this shit.

It is a small start, but they need to change the thought pattern that women need to be forgiven. :o

He made a point of emphasizing it's still a mortal sin ...

every group has a right to make its own rules
as long as they don't try to impose their rules on others

if catholics want to consider abortion a sin that is their right
what a woman who is catholic and has an abortion wants to do is up to her
but Pope Frank has made life easier for catholic women

That's quite a big step for the Catholic church, though.

My oh my, this is a slight game changer for them isn't it? But not far enough. They need to accept the LBGT community as well.
