Not a Trump fan, but I ran a business for six years and lawsuits are rampant. It wasn't even a large business either. One thing I learned is that if you have money other people want it and will sue in order to try to take what isn't theirs. Nearly every single person I fired for any reason threatened or in fact produced a lawsuit. Anyone who got hurt on the premises, even if they stupidly hurt themselves doing something obviously unsafe and against the rules sued. Most of them never made it to court because they were just too ludicrous. We live in a litigious society. The fact that he has a company(ies) and money is enough to tell me that he will likely have a constant stream of lawsuits. Now that he has a lot of political enemies the hand crafted lawsuits that all powerful politicians face will likely be coming along as well.

Well, from every thing I have heard about his "university" it's more then just people trying to sue a rich business man.

I heard more about that lawsuit today. I read that the judge urged them to take a settlement. From years working in civil court disputes that statement from a judge is considered to mean that if they go ahead with the trial they will most likely lose. It's usually a judges last effort to help out those who are suing. I haven't really looked much into his lawsuits since I'm not surprised they are there or that there are many of them. I am surprised that no one dragged them all out during the campaign. They are public record so it would be simple enough to do a case search of every case he's ever won or lost. Maybe they just thought he was bad enough on the surface that they didn't need to do that kind of work to make him look bad?

Depending on the case, I would rather lose the case then to settle and in general the defendant doesn't have to plead guilty and everything gets closed up. UGH......

If you are an average Joe who has enlisted a lawyer to presumably recover on money you already lost + damages a settlement can be a lot safer which is why it usually is encouraged by judges and favored by the lawyers. The judge knows the odds of loss and also doesn't want to see the "victim" left with less than nothing and also holding the bill for all the legal fees because in many cases when they force a trial after the judge says not to then he will allow them to be held accountable for the legal fees from both sides which really really sucks if you lose. (hows that for a nice run on sentence?) :)

Yep, everyone is so very very worried about the presidential candidates who only get four years, eight at best, but the local judges are much more a threat to the average citizens day to day life. They don't have to follow any law they don't like. I've seen judges toss out contracts that both side agreed had been legally signed and entered in to just because he didn't like the way the lawyer was dressed or didn't like the wording etc. Sure supreme court judges are powerful but they can if needed be removed from office and in reality only get to see a handful of cases compared to those local judges handle. Yet, most citizens don't even know how a judge becomes a judge in their local courts.

Heard a discussion on the radio this morning where it was mentioned that there's nothing in The Constitution that says A President can't pardon him/herself.... Gotta wonder....
