Nov. 5th, 2016 08:39 pmFriday night I went to see Culture Club in concert.
Oh the great memories.
I saw them once before on what I think was their first big USA tour.
Friday night I had company for the ride back and forth to the show. My friend,
thirteenrocks got a ticket from some friends of his.
I found my seat and there was a couple behind me that spend all time talking about "all the empty" seats up front and how they should move forward. Eventually they actually did move up several rows. Then the people came for those seats and they moved over a couple of more chairs. Eventually they had to give up and come back to their own seats. Poor babies.
Culture Club eventually came out on stage with many more people then I remember from way back when. I wish they had brought back their old back up singer, Helen Terry. She had an amazing voice. Check out a couple of the videos below.
It was a really good show. Boy George's voice wasn't quite as pure as when they first hit it big. Not sure if it's age, the drugs, a combination of both.
At one point, Boy George tried to quiet things down for a song. He tried to shush people. They started the song "Victims", but there was still a fair amount of chattering going on, and he just stopped the song and said he wasn't going to sing it if people were going to keep talking, and he told the band to move on to the next song. I thought, uh oh Diva melt down in progress, but not really. He calmly just moved the band on to the next song which was a really cool version of "The War Song".
Near the end of the concert they did a tribute to Prince and sang a fantastic version of "Purple Rain"
Then they ended the concert by coming back and doing the song "Victims", and it was FANTASTIC. :)
Unfortunately, the night ended with my vehicle acting up again and doing what it was just "fixed" for, at a cost of $150. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Date: 2016-11-06 04:13 pm (UTC)I am seeing Stevie Nicks next month. She is touring with a new album, but it's not really new music, it's stuff she never put out before. So kind of new music. lol...
I don't know if you are familiar with Loretta Lynn?
I was pleasantly surprised to see in the store the other day she has a new Christmas album out. :)

Date: 2016-11-07 01:30 am (UTC)They did sing a couple of songs I wasn't familiar with. Not sure if they were new, or just old songs I didn't know.
Augusta as in Georgia? My brother and his family live across the highway in Evans, Georgia. :)

Date: 2016-11-07 02:18 am (UTC)The new album is supposed to be called "Tribes". These were the new songs from it that they played during last year's concert, along with all their old hits:
Let Somebody Love You
Like I Used To
Human Zoo
Different Man
Runaway Train
More Than Silence
YouTube has concert clips of all of them if you search. Maybe they aren't playing as many of them this year? I hope they do though.

Date: 2016-11-07 02:47 am (UTC)The title Runaway Train sounds familiar, but I can't say for sure that they did sing it.
Other then Prince's Purple Rain, Cream's Bang a Gong, and a couple that I didn't recognize, I think all the songs they sang were old hits.

Date: 2016-11-07 01:00 am (UTC)I am guessing they don't go to a lot of concerts either. They were whining about all the empty seats and it's two minutes to 8. When was the last time a concert/show ever started when it was scheduled to start? They didn't get started that night until almost 8:20. Surprise.......

Date: 2016-11-06 11:40 pm (UTC)I happened to be browsing the LJ home page, which included your post in the list, and the bit about Culture Club caught my eye. I'll be attending one of their concerts too in 2 weeks, if all goes well. As for BG's voice, I suspect it is a combination of both age and past drug use. There was a fabulous clip of him singing some song in a deep voice. Let's see if I can find it... here it is (it's a wonderful world):

Date: 2016-11-07 01:09 am (UTC)I hope you enjoy the concert as much as I did the one I went to. :)
That is a great clip. Thanks for sharing it.
He still has a great singing voice, but he doesn't seem to get quite as high and for lack of a better word, "pure".
I know he's had a very successful career DJing, but I am so glad he is touring again. :)
