Simple: if your faith won't let you do that job, resign and get another job. These people are public servants- that means all the public, not just the ones they happen to approve of!

That's what people were told here after a short while of lead time. In your case, you have this thing called separation of church and state, which we do not, so this stuff simply won't run.

"We are public servants in a secular role to uphold the law of the land. We have separation of church and state. We need to remember that." as one of the officials concerned said!

I'm a Quaker and therefore a pacifist- so I won't work for the military or in military procurement.

Not rocket science is it?

Oh....wait! :o)

That is the best plan yet! And let Tom Cruz deal with the Mexican feds.

Someone a few weeks ago asked me if I had thought about moving to Texas? I mean really - that is a wtf for sure, never never!

paxton isn't running for prez, darling. perry, former governor of texas, is running for president. again.

after buying himself some nice dark glasses frames, to make himself look smart.

I thought Cruz was officially running too. :o

Rick just looks like a male Rachel Maddow now. LOL.....

From: [identity profile] fallconsmate.livejournal.com
k, i misread. *G*

yes, cruz is running. he's an idiot, but he's running.

perry's glasses look like what we used to call BC glasses. "birth control" glasses, cause if your glasses look like that, you AIN'T getting laid! ;)

edit to add: there is still some controversy as to whether cruz is eligible to run for president. he was born in canada and held dual citizenship for a very long time (till last year, i believe).

Someone asked me the same last week when I mentioned we were looking to move.

Fwiw I'm a pro choice, multicultural supporting married English trans woman who hates guns.

Um.......nope!

Date: 2015-06-29 04:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kaishin108.livejournal.com
I also detest guns and yes pro choice and support an individual's rights. I almost took it as an insult the thought of moving to Texas, shudder! I refuse to even drive thru the state :-/

From: [identity profile] cmcmck.livejournal.com
Especially when we have 29 EU states to choose from! :o)

some very nice people live in texas.

i'm pro choice. i'm pro individual's rights as long as they don't trample *my* rights. i have guns. i'm pro humane hunting.

and it kind of hurts to see comments like "i refuse to even drive through the state". there are a lot of beautiful things in the state, and beautiful people. gerrymandering has caused some real idiots to be elected in the state, so has post-mortem voting in some years. but not ALL of the state is idiot-based, although i will gladly throw some of my relatives under the bus as idiots.

From: [identity profile] kaishin108.livejournal.com
I am so sorry I offended you. I guess I am afraid to drive thru the state because of the stories I have heard about getting stopped for really no reason.

And again I am sorry that I am so sensitive about guns, that is my issue I know.

And I too have some friends in Texas, so yes I have been rude.
Please accept my apology :-(

Date: 2015-06-30 01:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fallconsmate.livejournal.com
thank you for apologizing, i appreciate it and accept it gladly.

i didn't want you to feel scolded, just... *sighs* it's been a long few days, and gods i'm THRILLED that the supreme court ruled as they did. my sister in law is gay. :)

but i hate that the elected asses in the state of texas are making us all look like bigoted rednecks, when we all aren't that way. the only time i'm a redneck is when i forget sunscreen, you know?

again, thank you. i came off as a bit bitchy, but...yeah. *hugs and hugs if you would like them*

From: [identity profile] kaishin108.livejournal.com
Awww thanks sweetie. No I was out of line. I cannot judge a whole state on the messed up elected officials, like you say the gerrymandering, sighh.

(My sister was murdered so I am so sensitive about guns).

Hugz
Helen

aww, helen, i'm so very sorry about your sister!! that's a terrible thing.

we've had a couple of family members murdered by gun, and the murderers were never arrested. (the murderers were KNOWN, but money and corrupt officials, go figure.)

*hugs and hugs* thank you for letting me speak, and understanding.
kitty

A couple of friends from LJ are Texas based and they're a gay couple (now planning a wedding :o)

the mayor of houston is gay, and i'm sure she and her partner will be getting married if they haven't already gone out of state to do so.

i know that there have been many many weddings at texas courthouses, and i'm GLAD of that!

From: [identity profile] cmcmck.livejournal.com
It's good news and as we did here in 2004 when trans folks got full human rights, and again last year when gay folks did, you simply ignore the bigots and they eventually go away to sulk. :o)

I still think the best place for all these Republican Whack Jobs to move to is Iran. It's a Male Run Religion Dominated country. They would be in heaven. lol..........

Yep!

Surprisingly, Ayatollah Khomenei was sympathetic although only fine if you behave like other women do and you know what that means in Iran? Marry some bloke who's totally in charge and wear a chador.

i can *almost* see his reasoning, according to the last paragraph, in which the ass is quoted as saying something akin to "if they have to swear an oath to take their post as a clerk that ends in 'so help me god' then why should they be forced to do things that are against their religious beliefs?"

but. the REST of that vow says that they will enforce the laws OF THE UNITED STATES and the state of texas. OF THE UNITED STATES comes first, and the high court says issue the damn licence to get married.

now...judges can decline to marry you. ministers of any religion can refuse to marry you. that's LEGAL, judges can refuse to marry people for ANY reason. (hell, my parents WERE OF LEGAL AGE TO GET MARRIED and the judge required written letters from BOTH sets of parents before they were allowed to have their licence!) and of course, if their religion says "no to teh gayz", a minister can decline.

but issue the goddamn licence and let the people have the legal right to find someone to perform the ceremony!

Date: 2015-06-30 01:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com
Well, seeing as we techically have a seperation of Church and State, I think that should come before the oath.
And I don't think judges should be able to refuse anybody either. They are employees of the State as well.

Date: 2015-06-30 01:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fallconsmate.livejournal.com
it does come first. blah blah blah oath, so help me god.

the thing about wedding, though...that's different. the judge does that on their own time, not on state time.

Date: 2015-06-30 02:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com
Then the judges should have to advertise whom they will marry.
One Judge available for Hetero marriages only.
That way the gays will leave him/her alone. :p

heh. when chris and i got married, we went to the courthouse and there was a list of judges there who did weddings. we looked at the list and chris pointed at one name and said "i don't want him, he looks like a pickle".

guess who married us? judge pickerel. *grins*

Seems like religious people should have been refusing to process divorce paperwork for a long time right?

Date: 2015-07-02 02:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com
That has been my arguement for a LONG time.
If you seriously want to "protect" marriage, you should be outlawing divorce not more marriage. ARGH.........
