That was my thought.
Is that call incentive to clean out the pit? :o

It is simple math:

Dog (or cat) + old house = mice
because:
Dog or cat = an ever-present supply of food
and:
old house (50 years is old enough) = easy mouse access
and:
dog (or cat) food = mouse food

Also, you should know that:
2 mice + abundant food + 1 month = a gazillion mice

As unpleasant as they are to use, I find that the traditional spring/lever traps are very effective. Use peanut butter or peanut butter plus bacon as bait and tie a short string on the bait spot before you apply the peanut butter. When the mice tug on the peanut butter-covered string they trigger the trap. Of course put the trap where Maggie can't get at it.

UGH... So not looking forward to dealing with this.
I refuse to admit it, but I think I would rather deal with the earwig bugs. UGH.........

Coming in from the cold I guess.

We once had one which I trapped up in a humane trap and released in the woods.

Just as well as she was a wee (very pregnant)female!

If it wasn't Winter time, I would consider humane traps. But I think it's just as bad to put them out in the Winter weather. :(

Ohhhh geeeeeez....calm down, sweetie. One does not always mean more but yes, do check it out. And I don't like the spring traps - they hurt them :( but do what you have to - just don't post the details please :(

By the way, you're not even 50 yet ;)

Thank you for the support. :)
I pray that it was a one time thing. Not going to hold my breath though.
If I have to do the traps, I won't say much about it. Sorry...

I wish I wasn't over 50. lol........

Aw, mice are so cute! I admit I wouldn't want one roaming around in my house, though. I'm with those who suggest humane traps. Mice are smart, they can find a different warm spot.

I was convinced we had a rat in our garage once (I only saw something bigger than a mouse scurry by out the corner of my eye while I was putting away cleaning supplies). Turned out it was a little hedgehog, and I was so glad I hadn't put up spring traps! I re-located it. But not before the little bastard had gotten into my secret stash of Oreos hidden in the linen closet. LOL

Good luck de-mousing!

*hugs*
