I just finished reading book No. 1 for the new year.
I read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott. I read it as kind of "book club" with my LJ friend Ian.
Although I haven't really upheld my end of the discussion. :p
As I was reading the story did come back to me from when I read it back in high school, aka the dark ages. :p
It is set in a time shortly after WW I and revolves around a group of "friends" that are drawn together by Mr. Gatsby. Most of the characters are well to do partiers, other than the narrator, Nick.
Nick gets drawn into the lives of these people for better or worse. Mostly worse. Think Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton 100 years ago. :p
Yeah, still not really good with these reviews. :(

Grade: B+

Book List 2013:

Sounds like a fun time. Should I be sorry I missed the 1920's? (Book is still on my "To Read" List for this year - just not sure when it'll get squeezed in...

I think it would depend on which part of society you belonged to as far as being sorry you missed it. :p

Do you remember the movie made in the 70's?

Just vaguely. I mostly remember that Robert Redford was Gatsby. That is if I remember correctly. :p

Apparently, there's a new one coming out this year with Leonardo DiCaprio:

Ahh yes, Mia Farrow. :)

I know, sadly, I can't stand Leo. :p
I really wish Hollywood would leave the classics alone. Well, I don't know if Gatsby is quite a "classic". lol...

Do you think Nick isn't a well-to-do partier? I mean. He comes from a pretty ritzy family, works in investments, and it doesn't take much to get him to go to parties.

It just felt to me like he was on a different level from the others.
He comes from a privilaged background, but he feels like he's got some working class blood in him. :p
Or maybe he just looks that way next to the rest of them?

Oh yes, our books were on stone. Took forever to lug them back and forth to school. :p

Our little circle(2 that I know of) have both finished Gatsby. Not sure if we will be moving on to something else or not. :p
I am currently reading Soul Music which is part of the DiscWorld series books.

Let me know if you ever want a buddy for anything else. Have you read "Casual Vacancy" yet? It's J.K. Rowling's book.

Hmm, I wonder how much they are getting for the nook version? I hadn't paid for any books on there until Gatsby and it was just so much cheaper to get the nook copy then a real book. :p
