So much for all the Oscar buzz that the Ben Affleck movie, Argo, was generating.
It did get a few nominations, but although it was nominated for Best Picture, it was not nominated for Best Director.
I guess we know which movie won't be winning.....

Back up favorite is the highly nominated Lincoln.

I skimmed over it and it does look like a yawner. Too bad for Seth McFarlen(sp?). Will probably get blamed for low ratings. :o

A colleague of mine John Sheardown who got the initial phone call from the American Consul on the run with others in Tehran in 1979. He invited them to his house and sheltered them while our Ambassador was figuring out with Ottawa how best to get them out. Unfortunately John does not appear in the movie, he is the one who really started the ball rolling and his wife was also cooking for all of them and keeping the spirits up. Did you know they had formal sit down dinners every night with wine. John died age 88 just a few days ago. Too bad movies are sometime more fiction than reality.

I saw a headline some where that Iran is going to make a movie to "correct" Argo. lol.........

Well he and his wife did get the Order of Canada and recognition amongst his colleagues. But think had he not invited the Americans into his house and sheltered them, the whole story might have been very different.
