Here is your horoscope
for Tuesday, August 21:

You're all fired up and know in your heart that you're on the right path. It might be hard to convince your peers, but time will tell. They're at least watching you with great interest for the time being.

That is kind of a timely horoscope. :)
Yes, I am trying to get myself psyched up and on the right path.
I don't know if or how to convince my peers that I am, but I hope you will all be patient with me. I have been working on a couple of lists. Why I need to diet, and What I need to diet.

Why I need to diet:
1. Health issues. I would love to be able to get my blood pressure down without having to go on medication, or more medication if you count the diuretic that I don't think is working anyway. :p
2. Tired of being fat. I have lost in the past, why wasn't I smart enough to keep it off?
3. I refuse to buy new "fat" cloths.

What I need to diet:
1. In the past I got very strict with my dieting. I would cut out all sweets. I would eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, and I would have a "regular" meal for supper. I haven't come close to doing that this year. I really need to get strict with myself. I work Mon-Fri and I have lost so much control over my appetite on the weekends. I can usually be pretty/very good during the week, and then just fall apart on the weekend. I really need to mentally adjust.
2. With blood pressure issues, I have to also reduce salt in my diet. That is so much easier to say than do.
3. I have been pretty laxed in my walking, which is my main type of exercise. Now my treadmill is broken, and it just gives me a lame excuse not to walk on bad weather days. I really need to check out if the local school is open for walking on the weekends, and what time the mall opens in the mornings for walkers.
4. I need to eat better. More fresh foods. Fruits and Vegetables.

With these thoughts in mind, I must confess, this week will probably not be a good one for me weight wise. I fell apart over the weekend again. But I have really been thinking about this whole situation, and I am hoping that it will culminate in the attitude adjustment I need.
I ask for my "peers"/friends patience and support.

Topic of discussion:
I am hoping to go to the State Fair next Sunday. Am I allowed to enjoy the goodies that the fair offers, or do I need to stay strict? Opinions please.

One step forward, 2 steps back

Just as a suggestion: you could join the Healthy Living center, and go walk after work, or before work every day...

Seriously, if you go to the state fair, and eat crap, your not doing yourself any good. What's the point of trying to eat healthy, and then go snarf down a bunch of junk food.

Just my opinion.

Maybe you could go find a belt (or other article of clothing) that you REALLY LIKE, that's one size smaller than what currently fits. Just don't ever use food as a "reward" because that just gives you another "out" to go back to scarfing....

I think that is partially the problem when I have a good week of losing, I figure a little extra isn't going to hurt me. WRONG......

sweetie
My experience has been that if you are really ready, you will do it.
My experience has been that if you plan your meals, (three per day plus snacks) and stick to the plan, it really works.
My experience has been that if you write out the plan for a couple of weeks, it becomes habit.
You know that in order to lose weight you need to take in less calories than you burn. You know that certain foods can keep you feeling satisfied longer.
Things that have helped me lose 65 lb in 1.5 yrs:
pre make casseroles and bring a serving to work.
avoid situations in which you are prone to overeat, you know what these are.
Walk.
Think about your food choices, and choose whole grains, fruits, veggies, etc.
Walk.
You CAN do it. It's math, not will power.
I was sure I'd put on weight in the hospital, I ate alot of starchy things and sugary things and moved very little. I got on the scale today and discovered I was down about 3 lb from when I got in. Unfortunately I believe this is due to muscle loss. Not the best way to lose weight.
Anyway, I'm home now and if you want some recipes or menus that I've used, feelfree to ask.
Sure wish you could've taken care of me, I sure have a ton of respect for your profession!
