So, Friday morning I stopped at a couple of Vet offices in the Rochester area.
I got really good vibes from the first place. They quoted me a price that would range between $2800 and $3300. Ouch... They had appointments available next week.
The other place just didn't get the same good vibes from it. It was part of but tucked behind a much larger dog training/kenneling/grooming business. They said they would do one of two surgeries. First one they would go in and attach straps to the knee joint and was an outpatient procedure. Second one they go in and cut the bone in two just below the joint and put it back together with metal plates. That was $2800 and kept over night. Oh and then they offer rehab therapy. Of course you do. The earliest they could get Maggie in was Nov. 10th I thought she said.
Saturday morning I went back to the first place to see if I could get an idea of what their surgery consists of. The Vet actually came out and talked to me and very thoroughly described what it involved. They vertically cut the front of the shin bone and put in a piece and secure it with metal plates. They keep the dog 2-3 days.
I made an appointment to go in Tuesday morning for the Vet to exam Maggie. Fingers crossed that they can still get her in later next week.
Bonus Tidbit:
Remember when I said I swear I saw a Bald Eagle while walking Maggie one morning?
The other day when I took Maggie down to the Vet I saw a big bird flying over head, but I couldn't really see it, but on the drive back I saw two Bald Eagles standing in a field, one was eating on a carcass. So obviously we do have some Bald Eagles in the area and not just way down by the Mississippi River.
