Gotten behind on my books again.
Book No. 22 was "The Book of Deacon" by Joseph R. Lallo
I bought a collection of 8 books of fantasy for my nook and this was the first one.
There is a perpetual war going on, and this one girl has decided she can no longer support her country's side or any side of it any more. It has destroyed her family and she is all alone. She is continually on the move because whenever people find out she doesn't support the war, she is instantly hated. Hmm, sound familiar lately?
She meets all these different characters and ends up accepting the option to become a white wizard to help heal the injured. While running from the "bad guys" she stumbles into a cave where she meets an orphaned dragon baby. The dragon baby instantly bonds with her and becomes like a protector if anybody shows any danger towards her. Moving forward she is escorted into this hidden valley where war does not exist, but lots of magic does. It's soon discovered that she has great talent in all the magical arts.
Of course the book ends as the first part of trilogy. Ugh...
Book No. 23 was "Cyndi Lauper A Memoir" by Cyndi Lauper with Jancee Dunn.
I LOVE Cyndi Lauper.
She has had a very rough up bringing. She has survived abuse. Mostly sexual.
She had the typical experience of being an independent woman in the music industry. Nobody wanted to hear what she had to say. They all wanted to box her in to a certain image.
The book ends with a very moving chapter. She was on a trip to Japan. As the plane was landing it suddenly went back up, and circled for awhile before it could land. It was the day of the massive earthquake and tsunami. Everybody tried to convince her to go home, that nobody would blame her. Nobody else was touring the country, but Cyndi decided she had to stay and do what she could to help the people of Japan. She was even invited back on the first anniversary of the disaster to be honored for her support.
Book No. 24 was "A Pocket Full of Rye" by Agatha Christie.
Another great murder mystery by Agatha Christie with Miss Marple helping to solve the murders.
A less then loved patriarch of a family becomes very sick at his office and is rushed to a hospital where he dies. Pretty much everybody in the family has a reason for killing him. The unfaithful second wife. The oldest son who is afraid dad is going to ruin the business and lose all their money. The daughter who wants to marry a man that daddy doesn't like. Etc Etc Etc.
Soon after the unfaithful second wife is killed, and also one of the maids.
And that's where Miss Marple comes in. She had helped train the girl, an orphan, and wanted to help in any way she could.
Sorry to the lame reviews.
I am now one book away from my total number from last year, so that's a success. :)
