Book Reading.......

Gotten behind on my books again.

Book No. 22 was "The Book of Deacon" by Joseph R. Lallo
I bought a collection of 8 books of fantasy for my nook and this was the first one.
There is a perpetual war going on, and this one girl has decided she can no longer support her country's side or any side of it any more. It has destroyed her family and she is all alone. She is continually on the move because whenever people find out she doesn't support the war, she is instantly hated. Hmm, sound familiar lately?
She meets all these different characters and ends up accepting the option to become a white wizard to help heal the injured. While running from the "bad guys" she stumbles into a cave where she meets an orphaned dragon baby. The dragon baby instantly bonds with her and becomes like a protector if anybody shows any danger towards her. Moving forward she is escorted into this hidden valley where war does not exist, but lots of magic does. It's soon discovered that she has great talent in all the magical arts.
Of course the book ends as the first part of trilogy. Ugh...

Book No. 23 was "Cyndi Lauper A Memoir" by Cyndi Lauper with Jancee Dunn.
I LOVE Cyndi Lauper.
She has had a very rough up bringing. She has survived abuse. Mostly sexual.
She had the typical experience of being an independent woman in the music industry. Nobody wanted to hear what she had to say. They all wanted to box her in to a certain image.
The book ends with a very moving chapter. She was on a trip to Japan. As the plane was landing it suddenly went back up, and circled for awhile before it could land. It was the day of the massive earthquake and tsunami. Everybody tried to convince her to go home, that nobody would blame her. Nobody else was touring the country, but Cyndi decided she had to stay and do what she could to help the people of Japan. She was even invited back on the first anniversary of the disaster to be honored for her support.

Book No. 24 was "A Pocket Full of Rye" by Agatha Christie.
Another great murder mystery by Agatha Christie with Miss Marple helping to solve the murders.
A less then loved patriarch of a family becomes very sick at his office and is rushed to a hospital where he dies. Pretty much everybody in the family has a reason for killing him. The unfaithful second wife. The oldest son who is afraid dad is going to ruin the business and lose all their money. The daughter who wants to marry a man that daddy doesn't like. Etc Etc Etc.
Soon after the unfaithful second wife is killed, and also one of the maids.
And that's where Miss Marple comes in. She had helped train the girl, an orphan, and wanted to help in any way she could.

Sorry to the lame reviews.
I am now one book away from my total number from last year, so that's a success. :)

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-06-15 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-06-15 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I didn't even get 10 pages read last night. I went and visited a friend on another station instead. :p

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-06-15 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
aaaaaaaaaaaah I see.

yeah, that makes you fall behind. But having a chat can be nice too

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-06-16 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
And last night I didn't get a break so no reading at all last night. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-06-18 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
they kept you busy than?

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-06-18 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Been some crazy busy nights lately. Unfortunately, when I left Friday morning, it looked like it was slowing down again. UGH...

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-06-19 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
so... they just want to keep YOU busy and all the others not?

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-06-20 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, most of the station has been quite busy the last few days. :o This morning the day shift was short about 3 nurses I think I heard. :o

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-06-25 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
EEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP you do NOT want to have a shortage of staff in the ICU

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-06-25 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been a rollercoaster lately. We either have way too much staff or not enough. UGH........

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-06-26 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think that THE main problem everywhere

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-02 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
it's sad really

Medical care shouldn't be short of staff

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-07-03 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I remember a few years back, they actually canceled some surgeries because there wasn't enough nurses to take care of them afterward. :o

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-03 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
OMGGGGGGGGGGGG REALLY??

Now how sad is that!!

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-07-03 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Then they hired way too many for awhile, then they had to offer early retirement and things like that to get rid of some of them, and then of course we ended up with too few again, and now they are in the process of hiring way too many again. Seriously, management has no clue how to do their jobs. UGH...

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-03 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
leaders in your country suck!! No matter what job they do

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-07-04 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ain't that the truth. :o

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-05 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
:(

sadly enough it's not just in your country :(

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-07-06 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Time to ship them all off to a deserted island. :o

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-13 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
isn't that how America got filled with people ??

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-07-14 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
No we stole them from Africa and brought them here. :o

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-14 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL that too.

But i know from history that all criminals and bad people from Europe got transported to America so we would be rid of them

[identity profile] thespian15.livejournal.com 2016-07-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Gee, thanks for nothing. :p

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2016-07-16 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
haha you're most welcome :pppp

[identity profile] kaishin108.livejournal.com 2016-06-14 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Your reading is quite consistent, I am impressed!
Oh, I keep meaning to tell you, I am reading the Mary King book now, 'Treatment of Choice'. On page 141 of 292 pages. It is quite different that other books I read so I find it quite refreshing. Thanks for the recommendation :-)

Hugz,
Helen

That is great news. I hope you will like it and keep working through the series. :)

EDIT: I noticed I was repeating myself, jeez.
Yes, let's see how this goes, I might have to take a break though for my favorite Scottish Detective, Mr Hamish Macbeth, hee hee!
