Sep. 29th, 2014 08:59 pmAfter leaving Thunderhead Falls I head back to Custer and the hotel. Along the way I decided to take a detour and drive through the Needles Highway. It a scenic highway drive. It consists of narrow drive lanes, hairpin turns, and single lane tunnels. Oh, and some beautiful scenery.
First I stopped by the Pactola Dam and Reservior. I wanted to get some pics of the fog rolling through the valleys and check out the reservior level.

One one side of the dam...

And on the other side of the dam...

On to Needles Highway...
The first of the single lane tunnels...

Some of the "Needles"...

Next Tunnel...

Entering the Tunnel...

What a view...

I think this section or rock is known as the Cathedral Spires...

If you see the little white spots in the middle there, they are mountain goats. They were approximately in the middle of the previous photograph...

Catheral Spires again...

One more tunnel...

Wildlife Time...

Is that dinner strolling down the road? :p

Date: 2014-09-30 06:08 am (UTC)My fear of heights got to me a little bit as I was going up these winding roads that barely fit two cars and I was on the outside of the road. EEP... :o
