Oct. 28th, 2004 03:03 amYesterday I went to a rally for John Kerry. I have to say that it really raised my spirits and made me feel hopeful.
The Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Mn. was full and there were people standing outside. That is quite an accomplishment if you understand that Southeastern Minnesota is VERY heavily Republican. Granted not everyone there was from right here in the Rochester area. I sat next to a guy from LaCrosse, Wis. and a lady from Minneapolis. But still if people are excited enough to drive that far to hear him speak, that has got to mean something.
Carole King was there and gave some very disturbine news. The town where she is from in Idaho only has school 4 days a week because they can not afford to have 5 days of school a week. So much for "No Child Left Behind".
Garrison Keillor was there, and gave a little hometown feeling to the rally. For those of you who don't know him. Garrison has a Public Radio show called A Prairie Home Companion. It is about a little fictional town here in Minnesota and the daily lives of people there. Pretty boring to a lot of you folks I am sure, but it is so down home Minnesotan. It is feel good humor.
Also two of John Kerry's stepsons were there. One has been living in Sweden and so of course had to tease us a little about all the Swedes that live here. Yes a lot of us are good old Scandinavians. :)
I started standing in line just before 9:30. The doors opened just after 10:00. The rally started just before 1:00. My bedtime is about 10:00. Needless to say I was just a little tired. I finally got to bed about 3:30 and woke up just before 9:00 so I could get ready to go to work. UGH!!!!!
I would say I am praying that John Kerry is going to win, but I don't want to stoop to the level of the Republicans and claim that God is on our side. Somehow, I think God has much more important things on his mind that the US presidential election. At lease I hope so.
Tuesday is coming fast. Please rally the troops so to say and get out the vote so we can send Georgie packing back to Texas for good.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
