merlinwon mentioned ABBA and that got me to drag out my cd set out to the car to listen to them.
One of my favorite songs of theirs is not one of their big hits. It's called The Visitors.

Date: 2012-09-05 01:18 am (UTC)In the late 70's, Benny & Bjorn heard stories from some of their Russian and Polish friends (this was the time of the initial Polish steelworkers uprisings... Lech Walęsa , etc.) while on tour in those countries. The stories were of fear of being turned in by government informants and subsequent abductions by KGB influenced their writing of the song.
When you listen to the lyrics, it really makes sense when you put it in context of the time and place where they wrote it.
