This past morning I finished up No. 21. Just trying to keep up with the Jones(Mr. Owl).

I read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
It was really good, but sooo different from the old classic Hollywood Frankenstein directed by James Whale.
She doesn't spend any real time on the actual creation of the "monster". And although he is an ugly creature, he is also extremely intelligent.
Victor Frankenstein is quite a self absorbed weak knee. He allows a young woman who has been in their family care to take the blame for his youngest brother's murder instead of coming forward with the fact of his creature. She is then executed. Nice guy Victor was. :o

I would give this one a B+/A-

"Kingdom Keepers" is the series featuring the children who run around Disneyland at night, right? I've been kind of interested in those.

As far as Frankenstein goes... I have not read the book OR seen the movie. But if they're getting above average ratings here, then maybe I should check them out.

Disney World, but yep those are the ones. :)
They are just fun books to read, and being a HUGE Disney fan it's right up my alley. :)

The old movie is a classic, but the news Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by Kenneth Braunnagh(sp?) is closer to the book. That one is good too.

I guess Hollywood had to alter things a little... I saw the Kenneth Branagh version & was a bit disappointed with it. Maybe it was Robert De Niro as the "creature" that I had problems with....

I should rewatch it. I remember liking it, but I agree, Robert wouldn't have been my first choice. :p

I still remember all the joking around about the stuff in the vat where the creature was brought to life - cleanup after that scene was probably LOADS o' fun....

I must have read Frankenstein two or three times - certainly when I was at uni. I like it - and remarkable for its time - and a female author!

Yeah, when you think about the time it was written and it is pretty wow. :)

I have always loved the James Whale version of the story, but Shelly was the Queen. What's interesting (and most don't know) is that during the stormy evening she wrote this wonderful macabre tale she was with Lord Byron who would later create the infamous outline followed by Stoker to write Dracula! Of course, le Fanu was first with Carmilla, but she isn't as well known as Dracula...who was almost named Count Wampyr. True story.

But, back to the matter at hand. I have always loved Shelly's story because it was so fascinating and dealt more in the question of "now you've created life...how do you control over it/deal with it". Very heady for an eighteen year old woman (of the time)!
