TX to Execute ‘Mentally Retarded’ Man

Texas plans to execute Marvin Wilson, who has been diagnosed as “mentally retarded,” on Tuesday. The 54-year-old man, who will be punished for his crimes by being put to death by lethal injection, does not meet the state’s definition of mental deficiency that would make the death penalty excessive punishment. Wilson was placed on death row after being found guilty of the murder of a police informant in Beaumont in 1992. Wilson was subjected to extensive psychological testing and was found at the time to possess the literacy level of a 7-year-old. He tested in the lowest IQ percentile of the population, managing a score of 61.

Don't quite know what to say about this one. He committed a crime, but he is disabled. I just don't know. Oh, and on a side note, I find the word retarded so offensive.

My thought is, this man has the mental capacity of a 7 year old. Would they put an actual 7 year old on death row? :o
Just because he has an adult body doesn't make him an adult if that makes sense?

I'm glad we're on the same page, it's awful. What do they do to 7 year old murderers though? They must do something?

I don't know if I have ever heard of an accused murderer that young.
I think I have heard of a kid 13 being accused of murder and they tried to charge as an adult, but I can't remember if they got the go ahead to try them as an adult.

I don't believe in the death penalty.. if we can't put him in a room.. with nothing.. and just bare essentials for food...etc.. it's a messed up world. Esp. with this guy! The Human Race needs to be destroyed!
