Billy Graham can bite me........
Billy Graham: Ban Gay Marriage in N.C.
Evangelist Billy Graham on Wednesday called for North Carolina voters to support a state constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage, and will run a full-page ad in 14 North Carolina newspapers throughout the weekend. The public comments are rare from the 93-year-old pastor, and while Graham has often preached on sexual purity, he has never touched the issue of same-sex marriage. North Carolinans will go to the polls next week to vote on adding an amendment to the state Constitution banning gay marriage, although gay marriage is already illegal in the state.

Date: 2012-05-03 01:58 pm (UTC)I'd not really thought about Billy Graham since he hasn't weighed in on the issue at all, although his teavangelical son most certainly has been since the issue came up last year.
Bill Graham carries a lot of influence among the religious. Our one hope was that Evangelical Republicans might not take the time to come out and vote - let's hope they take it for granted. I take hope in seeing how Brian's family in Eastern NC behave. They usually can't be bothered to vote except in a Presidential election.
Here in Durham (Berkeley Southeast, lolz...) turnout was VERY heavy after work when I went to vote. In Durham and Chapel Hill, you almost never see a pro-amendment sign.

Date: 2012-05-03 09:04 pm (UTC)Back when I was a kid I use to admire, not follow, Billy.
Now that I have grown up and learned about him. Not so much any more.
And his son is a flippen Nut Job. :o

Date: 2012-05-04 05:03 am (UTC)Although I technically belong to the church that I did growing up, I don't attend. I have always had a problem with the physical structure of "church". If nothing else there is too much hypocrisy involved. :(

Date: 2012-05-04 05:35 am (UTC)I remember a couple of election cycles ago, when the churches were getting into everybodies' business and preaching about who to vote for from the pulpits, I was so tempted to start attending just to see if my pastors would say anything, and then if they did I would get up and walk out.
Never did though. :p

Date: 2012-05-04 04:08 am (UTC)but not surprising.
Marriage is between the 2 individuals involved....not them and the Voters.

Of course most of them would be in jail now.

Date: 2012-05-04 05:57 am (UTC)Just can't see any logic in their "arguement". Same sex marriage does not make Opposite sex marriage any less valid... Idiots....

Date: 2012-05-04 06:11 am (UTC)I want to push a lot of those rules too.
No more cherry picking what the Bible says. Either you follow all of it or none of it. :p
Okay, may not quite that far. lol...
