Apr. 18th, 2012 06:27 amI ended up being awake pretty much all of yesterday due to the drama of my car tale.
I got online and looked up some potential vehicles at a dealship in Lewiston, Mn.
They had a 2000 Impala 147,000+ miles, 2000 LeSabre 114,000+ miles, 2003 Cavalier 122,000+ miles, and a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo 135,000+ miles.
I test drove the Jeep and there was something weird about the ride. When you eased off the gas or stepped down on it there was like a shimmy of the whole vehicle. When I came back and told the guy about it, he wanted to take it out and see if he could feel it. Right off the bat he could. Thankfully he didn't try to pass it off as nothing. We went back to the dealership and he went right in to the shop and told them about it. Later he told me there was some bearing or something like that in the front wheels that were loose. I wanted to see the Cavaleir, but that never seemed to get brought out. Although it's probably okay. Not sure I would be happy with that small of a vehicle. Didn't see the LeSabre on the lot. Probably okay too, it was the most expensive of the ones I wanted to look at. I was very familiar with the Impala because I had one that was basically identical to it before I had the PoC Caddy, but I took it out for a test. It was really nice. Just like I remember mine. I had pretty much decided to go with it. Only thing I am not happy about is the total mileage it has.
The car is Silver with grey leather interior. Power this and power that. AM/FM/Cassette/CD. Tires are new, but they look pretty good. They even replaced the rearview mirror after I said something about it. There was some kind of flaw or something in it. And it's an autodimmer. Been spoiled and had that on several of my cars. :) All for $4,800+.
So as of right now I own two cars. Well, maybe 1 1/2. lol...
Now how do I get rid of the PoC? I was looking at some want ads on the Mayo web site and there were a couple of ads of people looking for old cars. Should check those out I guess. Also thought I would see if my mechanic had any suggestions.
Also I need to figure out about getting my Vanity Plates transfered to my new car. Dealer tried to figure out what to do and decided I should wait until I get the title from the State, which he said could take 3 months. I alwasy traded in before so it was taken care of for me. :o
Advice welcome.....

It does have the trusty 3.8V6 - a good thing rather than the complex twin-cam. It says on the carfax it was a corporate vehicle - I wonder if it was a government vehicle or somebody's business vehicle for 10 years before moving on to another owner.
One owner for a decade is usually a good thing imho... hopefully they cared.
I have no idea about dealing with the plates....

Date: 2012-04-18 12:21 pm (UTC)I was kind of thinking if the Impala was some kind of corporate car I would think it would get regular care. :)

Date: 2012-04-18 02:08 pm (UTC)I put about 16-18,000 miles per year on my car - commuting, errands and weekend trips. I know plenty of people who put 45-50K each year on their cars. Really no options for public transport here outside the central parts of town....
