Nov. 15 Day No. 3 of Disney World
Nov. 23rd, 2011 07:01 amToday was going to be a long day of Magic Kingdom. The park opens at 9 am, closes to the general public at 7 pm and then is open until 12 midnight for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
I got up and got ready and wrote out a few postcards quick. They needed extra postage so I took them along to the park to get some. I was told that City Hall sold stamps. I got to the Magic Kingdom a few minutes after it opened and went straight to the City Hall to get some stamps. Of course they didn't sell stamps there. The stamps are now being sold at the little souvenier store just before entering the park. So off I headed. I am still not satisfied I didn't get ripped off. A regular First Class stamp is like 44 cents. The cheapest stamp they had and just automatically sold you was something like 30 or was it 40 cents. I find it really hard to believe it cost almost a dollar to mail an extra sized postcard. I have one left over, I should take it up to the post office and see what it would cost to mail. I got those taken care of and headed back into the park.
I saw that Daisy Duck and Pluto were in the City Square for meet and greets so I quickly got in line for a photo with Daisy. You rarely see Daisy Duck so I thought I would take the opportunity to get a pic with her. What the heck I also got in line to get Pluto's picture. Then I went and ordered my Mickey Christmas Ears. I heard Mickey's meet and greet had moved into one of the buildings there on the Square after Toon Town got closed, so I decided to get my pic with Mickey while I was in the area. It ended up being both Mickey and Minnie. :)
After that I went back and got my Mickey Ears, I had my name embroidered on the back. :p
Then it was off into the Park. Up Main Street. Stopping to get a couple of pics and then I went around the Castle and back into Fantasyland. I hit the major rides and went to see Mickey's Philharmagic show. Then it was over to Frontierland, of course starting with The Haunted Mansion. No kids stuck in the fence this time, and actually no real line. After the Mansion I hopped in the Paddle Boat that was just getting ready to take off. Wanna to make sure I didn't miss it because it's one of the first things to close down in the evening. I actually missed it my first trip down here. It's a nice leisurely trip around Tom Sawyer's Island, which I just realized I didn't go over to, and through Frontierland. I think it was a couple of more rides, a show, and photo ops, and I luckily found an open spot for the afternoon parade. Then it was over to Adventureland, and the Tiki Room show was just about to get started. It was back under original management and it's original script. I hit all the rides except Aladdin's Carpet ride. Partly I skipped it because I wanted to get over to Futureland to see the Carousel of Progress before it closed for the day. That is the downfall of the extra hours days, not everything stays open through the late hours. So off to Futureland and a couple of rides and show. First thing to do in Futureland was to stop and get my armband for the Christmas Party. Not the most organized set up I have to say. *rolls eyes* I did ride Space Mountain again. I rode it the first time I went down to Disney, but the second time it was closed for refurbishment. After Futureland I went back into Fantasyland and sucked it up and rode some of the rides I thought I was too old to ride. I rode the Mad Tea Cups, Cinderella's Carousel, and Dumbo. :)
By then I believe it was getting close to the lighting of Cinderella's Castle, so I went around the Castle and found a place in the Hub to stand and watch it. The Castle is beautiful when it's lit up for Christmas. It looks like it's covered in snow and icicles.
I asked a Cast Member when the special Christmas Party meet and greets would start. Oh about 7:30. Hmm, okay. One of them was going to be all Seven Dwarfs together, which is unheard of. So I kind of wondered down to where they were going to be tucked down between Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. I am so glad I did, because the line from when I got in it until the end of it, was 90 minutes long. :o The first Cast Member walking down the line told us it was about an hour, maybe and hour and fifteen minutes. A couple of minutes later another Cast Member comes down the line and tells us it's at least 90 minutes. I was like, How does the time get longer when it has gotten shorter by a couple of feet? No good answer of course. But they assured us that they weren't allowing time for autographs. Gee thanks. :p The closer we got we could see part of the reason it was taking so long. The Seven Dwarfs were a bunch of goof balls. LOL.......
After I finally got through the line I hopped onto Big Thunder Mountain Railroad because the first parade was going on, and basically I was stuck down in that corner. After the ride, I started back up towards the street and the parade was just getting done and I saw Santa go by. I thought I would go over and ride Pirates of the Caribbean again before the fireworks. It was closed, Due to technical difficulties. So I got in line to get my picture with Captain Jack. Which of course he then took a break which we were told would be 15 minutes. It was getting close to fireworks time and the way the lines had been moving I decided to call it quits on this one and went up to the Hub in front of the Castle to get a place to watch the fireworks. They were exciting as usual. After the fireworks I wondered over to Liberty Square to get some free hot chocolate and a cookie. Even on a warm night, the hot chocolate was good. :) People were lining up again for the second go around of the parade so I nabbed me a spot and waited. It was a good spot to record it, which nobody stopped and told me I couldn't this time. Unfortunately, the lighting was not the best, and so I think my recording is a little dark.
After the parade I wondered back up to the Castle area and there was going to be a couple of more shows there. One was pretty cool. They projected pictures of park guests up on the Castle while changing the lighting designs on the Castle. After that there was another Character's show in front of the Castle. While I was watching it I realized that I had forgot to buy the special trading pins that are only available during the Christmas Party. So when my memory card got full just before the show ended I quickly headed back down to Main Street to try and find the pins. Yesterday I had asked in one of the stores if they were going to have them. Yes, they were. So I went in there and didn't see them any where. I asked a Cast Member if they still had them. Oh no they didn't sell them there. I was like, Well, I was told they would be in here. Oh no. Well a guy who worked in here told me they would be. He finally went off to track somebody down that knew what was going on. Sure enough they weren't being sold in that store, like I was told they would be. They were across the street in the Emporium. So I went across the street and finally found them. They had individual ones, a boxed set, an individual large one, and a framed set. I think the individual ones were about $13 a piece, the large one was about $45 the boxed set was $100, and the framed set was about $225. I finally decided on the large one and the box set. I would have like to have gotten the framed set because it had one pin that wasn't included in the boxed set, but I couldn't justify an extra $125 for one pin. Although in it's defense that one pin was limited to only 200 pins.
After that adventure, I went out and just kind of wondered around the park for a few minutes until the park closed. Most things were pretty muched closing down by then. I grabbed a Mickey ice cream treat and slowly headed for the gate.
Talk about a long, but exciting day. :)
