Today was one of my two open days. I was at the park for 6 days, so one for each park and that left two days open for where ever I choose to go.
I started the day off going to Downtown Disney. First to run across the street to find a bank to nab a little more cash, then back over to Downtown Disney to do some looking around and possible shopping. lol...
I walked through a toy store and then headed over to the pin trading center. Oops... I dropped a small fortune there. :o They are kind of addicting, and of course they had a lot of special ones this year for the 40th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom. From there I wondered around to several of the other stores. I went through the Christmas Store which is usually dangerous for me, but I didn't spend any money there. I think because I felt guilty about spending so much at the pin trading place. :o There is a build your own t-shirt store there and I started to play around with one of the machines, and I ended up designing a shirt that I could use for the Christmas party at Magic Kingdom the following night. So I went ahead and ordered it. It would take approximately an hour to finish it, so off to wonder around some more.
I headed off towards the other end of Downtown Disney. I went through some of the world's largest Disney store. Found a nice tye dyed tshirt that I thought about getting. Wouldn't you know the biggest Disney store didn't have my size. lol... Next I stopped to look at the Lego displays that were built outside the Lego store. There was a Lego family, the Prince fighting Malificent's Dragon from Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Buzz and Woody, and the "Dragon" was still in the lake. From there I walked through Pleasure Island to the West End. The stores there are kind of more upscale mall type stores. Even a couple of cigar stores. Yuck... I stopped into the Cirque du Soleil gift shop. Lots of cool and fun things there.
Then I went back to pick up my tshirt. I had wanted to stop and grab a bite to eat at the McDonalds, but it was no longer there. :( So I grabbed my shirt and headed back to the hotel before going on to the Magic Kingdom.
I went on to the Magic Kingdom for the evening because I wanted to see the Main Street Electrical Parade, and it was the only night I was going to be able to see it with my schedule.
At the Magic Kingdom the first ride I went on was the Haunted Mansion. While walking through the line there was a classic America's Funniest Home Videos moment. Some kid put his head through the bars on the fence and got it stuck. UGH... They eventually got him out without causing too much of a stir. They have added a section to the walk up to the mansion. You can either go directly to the house, or you can go through the "cemetary". They have some new statues and things. There is a big block with images of musical intruments on it and as you touch/tap them they play music, also an organ that plays music. There is a huge tombstone for a sea captain who's ghost occasionally sneezes and squirts water or starts to blow bubbles. lol...
I had prebought a PhotoPass picture disc so I tried to hit as many character photo opportunites and other photo stops as I could. That of course ate up quite a bit of time, but I wanted to get my money's worth on the disc. It was $99 with the $50 discount. :o
It finally got to be time to find a place to watch the parade. Aka at least an hour before parade time. lol... Found a good one and planted myself. When it finally got started I was going to video tape it and I was stopped by a cast member and told I couldn't because of the video light on my camera. That pissed me off because I could see somebody across the street who had the same basic system on his camera and I didn't see anybody stopping him, and there were plenty of people using flash phototography which had to be more dangerous to the float drivers than a steady video light. ARGH... Needless to say, I was not a happy campers. So I took some still shoots without using the flash. Most of them turned out fairly decent.
After the parade I decided to call it a night and go back to the hotel to get some rest. :p I could have stayed for the fireworks, but I figured I would be seeing the Christmas party fireworks the next night.
Back at the hotel I stopped into the cafeteria and got myself a pizza for dinney, for a couple of nights. lol...

There was another ride that I felt had been upgraded, now which one was it...
Of course two years ago Space Mountain had been closed when I was there, and from when I rode it in 2006 I am sure that was upgraded.
