Nov. 8th, 2011 10:30 pmDay 2 of vacation...
Just when you think it can't get worse.....
It does, but at least it had a silver lining. :)
Finally took off for Newark, NJ this morning. The first half of the flight was fairly turbulent. There were some storms in Eastern Wisconsin.
We landed in Newark and I was able to take the shuttle bus from Terminal A to Terminal C. Which means I actually walked on NJ ground, so I am able to officially add New Jersey to my States visited map. Now I just need to find the map. lol...
The flight from Newark to Orlando was over booked and they were asking for 4 people to give up their seats. They offered $400 in travel vouchers and then a couple of minutes later they bumped it up to $500 per person. They said you could fly later in the day to Orlando or Tampa. Or they would put you up in a hotel for the night and you could fly the next day. I think they even offered to let you fly first class the next day.
I had a schedule to keep so I didn't even consider. To say nothing of the fact that I already had my flight changed on me.
For the Newark to Orlando flight I paid for an Exit aisle seat. LOVED!!!!!!!!! the extra leg room. :)
The were a LOT of kids heading from Newark to Orlando. I thought, Great this is going to be a pain in the butt flight with screaming kids all the way. It actually wasn't too bad. In fact it was the adults that were more annoying. People were bouncing up and down out of their seats the entire flight. :o And in the final few minutes of the flight some idiot behind me started to "pop" their gum. I so wanted to turn around and rip it out of their mouth. ARGH........
When we finally landed, people jumped up and started to get their things together, but then just kind of stood around. Usually people are practically pushing themselves off planes. Not today. I was like, Come on people I have a 7+ hour drive ahead of me. :o
Finally got off the plane and headed for the baggage claim....
And that's where the fun began
I stood around and waited for my suitcase to come out. Finally it did. AND.......
It looked like somebody tried to rip the whole top of my suitcase off. The pullup handle was literally broken off. The regular handle was practically ripped off.
I went over to Continental's luggage office and asked if they would compensate for damages. They were kind of shocked when they saw my suitcase. They joked about I must have been awfully rough with it. :p
But they actually gave me a new suitcase to replace me destroyed one.
I was pleasantly/happily surprised, and very grateful.
So I unloaded my suitcase and put it all in the new one and headed down to the car rental counter. Once down there I realized I forgot my jacket up in the luggage office. So I finished getting my car. They tried to get me to up grade to a Mustang or Camero "to have fun" while I am in Florida. I said no thank you. It would have been nice, but I spent enough on the car already without upgrading that far.
I had booked a "full sized" car with a free upgrade to the next level. The vehicle they offered was a Jeep Liberty. Is that really an upgrade from a full sized car?????
Any way, after a LONG drive I am finally here in Milton, Florida. Called my friend, Mary to let here know I was getting in late. Then I ran to the Kmart to pick up a few things. Of course I forgot a few things I wanted to get. :p
Then I stopped and ordered a pizza. :p And headed back to get checked into my hotel, a Holiday Inn Express. I am on the third floor of three. Yippy...
Stuffing my tummy and watching a little boob tube. Then I will try and get some sleep. :)
