Date: 2011-10-14 12:28 am (UTC)It goes along with me poll I did a day or two ago.
I had 13 shifts of work left before vacation, and I was wondering how many of them I was going to end up sitting/babysitting with confused patients. So far one out of the 13.

Date: 2011-10-14 11:34 am (UTC)Are you all done when you reach the 300, or do you just keep clocking hours?

Date: 2011-10-14 11:40 am (UTC)I was told to cut back to 20/21 hours a week, after pulling the 25-29 hour weeks. There was no point in racking up hours for the heck of it, because I wasn't getting the client contact I needed (to go towards the 120/300). Even though I'm at 135/300 right now, for the rest of the time until finals week, I'm doing 20/21 hour weeks (the "first one" was this past week, so my hour totals will go up each week by 20/21 -- so it won't be that big of a (numbers) jump.
Doing 300 hours over 15 weeks, I've learned, is more time consuming than I thought. Clocking over 300 hours would be too much even for me!

Date: 2011-10-14 11:54 am (UTC)I feel like it's a limit for everyone in the program. Based on people's individual schedules, whether they're working, or can only do 10 hours a week for various reasons, there are people who finish their hours after the term ends. Everyone's always glad to be done after the 300. Because you're working at the "Internship" level, vs. "Practicum", you're supposed to have more client contact, more to do, more responsibility, etc. SO, even though I'm doing 20 hours a week, it can feel like a long 20 hours. Hitting the 300 (or 302/304/whatever it ends up being at the end), is enough for me. It's also the fact that we (in the program) know we have to do 2 semesters of 300 hours each. .....This is why everyone tries to intern at their job (if they're working in the field) or wants to get a paid internship, because, doing 300 hours, no matter if you're doing 20 hours a week or 30, you (mentally - at least, if anything...) want to get paid for it. ....I can't get paid for it (no position, no money at the agency) -- but even so, I'm not arguing that they want me doing 20 a week not 30 on the sheer aspect that it's useless to rack up hours if I'm not getting the client contact, and not to mention, yeah, it's Internship, they know I'm not getting paid so/and they don't want me getting burned out -- given I'm only a student.
....sorry that was so long :O
