Oct. 3rd, 2011 01:03 amWork Life.......
Last night I walked onto the station last night and the charge nurse comes up to me to say the day aide was picking up on the night shift and we were getting a float aide too. The float aide was going to sit with the patient in room **. Dan was going to work the floor, and I was going to be sitting with the patient in room **.
I got to sit at the request of the nurse that hard that patient. I guess I can take that as a compliment that she prefered to have me and not Dan or the other aide. :p
At 4:15 am the nurse poked her head in to tell me she was going on break and that Christina would cover me if I needed anything. Okay.
At 5:40 am the nurse poked her head in again and asked if I had been on break yet. I told her no, that nobody checked with me to see when I wanted to go. She told me to go now if I wanted to. I thought a second and told her I wouldn't bother going on one. If I were take a break at that point I would be coming back for about 20 minutes of work time, and it had been a fairly quiet night.
I tend to be a bit of a martyr when it comes to break. :p
Then after not getting/taking a break, I stood and watch the nurses giving report and nobody coming to let me go home. 10-15 mintues later somebody finally said it was okay for me to go. Gee Thanks.......
Tonight I don't go into work until 2:30-3:00 am. Then I work until 7 am and then I have a "Professional Day". We get to "learn" things, "talk about" things. Basically it's an excuse for the hospital to put down on paper that they are doing such things for the State and Feds to see. PDay runs from 7-11am. That's so sweet because I normally go to bed at 10 am. :o I looked at the agenda and talk about LAME... Someone please just shoot me now. :p
I was really expecting to have the station call me and see if I would come in at 11pm. To sit again. I had thought about offering, but after last night I kind of lost that enthusiasm for that.
It will be interesting to see if they got aides to sit with both those patients, or if they were needed, or if the patients were transfered out. I will probably be expected to run my butt off for 4 hours trying to do all the work I normally do in 8.
Sooo looking forward to that. Then go sit and listen to the BS they call Professional Day.
