Christie Tells NJ Mom To Mind Her Own Beeswax

“It’s none of your business.”
That was Governor Chris Christie’s characteristically rude response when a New Jersey mother who identified herself as Gail said:
“You don’t send your children to public schools. You send them to private schools, so I was wondering why you think it’s fair to be cutting funding to public schools?” the woman asked.
Christie’s response was the above-mentioned phrase:
CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer show the clip to residents of Teaneck who, says CBS New York, “were appalled at the language coming out of the governor’s mouth.”
Christie notes that he and his wife have chosen to send their four children to Catholic schools because “we believe a religious education should be part of our kids’ everyday education.” Fair enough. But then, despite his getting all huffed-and-puffed-up about discussing personal matters such as where his children go to school, Christie offered some private info, namely, that he and his wife pay $38,000 in property taxes, dollars that (alas) go into the salaries of public school teachers whom Christie has turned into Public Enemy #1 here in New Jersey.
Personally, I’m getting a bit deaf to Christie’s bombastic, defiant, offensive remarks. They do make for great sound bytes and appeal to those who think just knocking some heads (figuratively) around is the way to knock some common sense into wasteful spending practices that have caused a budget shortfall in New Jersey. More troubling to me (as a New Jersey taxpayer myself) is Christie’s muddying of “personal” and “public” matters. I mean, c’mon, this is the governor who used a New Jersey State Police helicopter and a State Police SUV to transport him and his wife to see their eldest son playing a baseball game for his (Catholic) high school and complained about having to pay the tab. Surely he wasn’t thinking that NJ taxpayers should
pick up the cost for his private expenses?
