Hey Walker, just admit you are governing by Your social agenda and not by a budget.....
Gov. Scott Walker Doesn't Want Gay Couples to Have Visitation Rights
posted by: Robin Marty
Republican Governor Scott Walker has done a lot of things under the guise of cutting spending -- taking away union bargaining power, fighting high speed rail, eliminating birth control and STI programs for teens and low income adults and fighting against mandatory paid sick leave laws.
But now the governor has picked a new battle: ending the state's defense of its domestic partnership registry, a means for same sex couples to obtain a few of the rights married couples have, such as hospital visitation. The governor calls the registry unconstitutional and states that it is a waste of taxpayer money to defend it.
However, he also asked to have his objections noted in the lawsuit if he is forced to carry on with its defense, showing his real intent is to once more pick and chose budget issues to force his own agenda.
Via the Journal Sentinel:
[Madison defense attorney Lester] Pines said Walker's aides never gave him an explanation when they told him to stop working on the case. He said he was troubled by the latest court filing.
"The governor of this state has an obligation to defend laws he doesn't like. And for that matter, so does the attorney general," Pines said. "This shows an utter disrespect for the rule of law."
Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie disagreed.
"We don't believe it is in the best interest of the state and its taxpayers to spend additional time and resources defending the legislation," he said in an email.
Scott Walker is continuing to follow the Republican master plan of using budgetary concerns to push for rightwing social engineering. Newt Gingrich has begun calling out national Republicans for doing the same. How long before someone finally calls out Walker?
