I dare anybody to tell me the Republican Party isn't out to control our social lives......

GOP Leaders Want Every Bill To Have Social Issues Attached
posted by: Robin Marty

Should every piece of legislation in the House and Senate be subject to a rider to pass restrictive conservative social agenda items like restricting abortion and blocking equal rights? Some members of the Republican Party say yes, and they want to start with the debt ceiling vote.

Via Roll Call:

While [Rep. Trent] Franks, a two-term lawmaker from Arizona, acknowledged that a balanced budget amendment may be better suited to be part of a compromise debt limit vote, he still has hope for a Senate vote on an anti-abortion bill.

Franks isn’t alone in hoping that H.R. 3 is part of the discussion on the debt ceiling extension.

“What we use the debt limit to leverage is really up to the leaders, [but] I would think this would be one of the bills that we could be asking for,” said Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Pa.), an ardent anti-abortion supporter.

Although conservative organizations have not yet begun pushing for this as part of the debt limit debate, activists said they would support the effort and argued that Republicans should make it a matter of routine that deals include requirements that the Senate vote on social issues. “Republicans making such demands shouldn’t be out of the ordinary,” Family Research Council’s Tom McClusky said.

So there you go. The Republican party would like to hold every single piece of legislation to pass through congress hostage to voting to pushing through their conservative social agenda.

So much for wanting to grow the economy.

Since the Democrats have a Social Agenda as well, this highly biased, one-sided piece of propoganda should say that Congress as a whole...is the problem. I realise that it's still trendy, fashionable & jolly fun to make Republicans look as bad as possible, but the Democrats are not free from blame either. The influence of the "Tea Party" crowd...or rather the Far Right conservative fringe that pushed its way into the Tea Party is where many of these problems are coming from. I just wish the mainstream Republicans would grow some backbone and tell those whackos to crawl back under the rock where they came from....
