Iowa GOP Introduce "Give A Gun To A Schizophrenic" Bill

If you are a legislator debating a controversial measure, particularly if it involves handguns, here's a free tip: turn off your mic.
Republicans in Iowa revived a bill that would allow Iowans to carry weapons in public without permission from a sheriff, without any form of background checks and without any training requirements. The bill is modeled after similar legislation already in place in Alaska, Arizona, Vermont and Wyoming.
During debate of the measure lawmakers quipped that the bill should be called "give-a-handgun-to-a-schizophrenic bill."
That lovely comment came hot on the heels of another "joke" where lawmakers said they would pull another lawmaker from a controversial union collective bargaining bill, similar to the bill already passed in Wisconsin.
Democrats were quick to pounce on the "hot mic" mistake as proof that the legislation is nothing short of a disaster.
Transcripts from the floor show that once lawmakers realize the microphone was on, and that they had just described their own bill as "crazy" the mic was turned off. But joke or no joke, is this the kind of leadership Iowa Republicans are proud of? Who supports, let alone introduces legislation they consider crazy?
I guess the answer to that last question is clear: Republicans.
