Kansas Rep: Shoot Immigrants Like Feral Pigs
posted by: Jessica Pieklo
The Republicans have not offered much in the way of humane solutions to the problem of illegal immigration, choosing instead to vilify immigrants and treat them like animals rather than humans. The latest case of this comes from Kansas where one legislator suggested it would be a good idea to control illegal immigration the way the feral hog population has been controlled---with hunters shooting immigrants from helicopters.
State Rep. Virgil Peck (R-Tyro) later backed off those statements, insisting they were a joke.
But if he was really just joking Rep. Peck has yet to explain why at first he was defiant when told the comments were inappropriate. Peck's response was that he "was just speaking like a southeast Kansas person."
The comments weren't as off-the-cuff as Peck would like us to believe. They were made during discussions by the House Appropriations Committee. Even worse, the Committee was not discussing spending on immigration. Rather, the Committee was discussing spending on programs to control feral swine.
So for Rep. Peck feral swine and immigrants go hand in hand.
