A Day In The Life.....
May. 4th, 2026 08:45 amFriday night I went up to Bloomington, Mn. for the SEIU Union recognition dinner.
It is for members that have been with the union for 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50+ years.
I have been part of the union for 45 years and this is the first I have heard about the dinner.
I normally work every Friday night, but I asked the union if they could get me off work to attend and they did.
I invited my friend Neil,
mrdreamjeans, to be my guest. Thankfully he could come, because I don't do well when surrounded by strangers.
Believe it or not, I am not that out going. lol...
The dinner was held at the Radisson Blu hotel that is attached to the Mall of America.
I've been sleeping like crap lately and I wanted to try and avoid some of the rush hour traffice, so I headed up early.
I wandered aroud the Mall and was naughty and did some shopping.
In my defense, I got good sales.
1. The calendar shop had their calendars on sale for 75% off. I got a fact calendar and 2 more joke calendars, so good luck to you guys. LOL...
2. I went to Yankee Candle to smell one of their new scents. Sadly, I wasn't blown away by it, but the lady told me they were having an employee and friends sale 60% off one candle. So I bought one of their wood wicked candles. Never tried one, but always wanted to. The wood wicks are suppose to crackle like a camp fire. I told the sales lady it was annoying because the store in Rochester had closed. She told me that the Mall of America store was the only one left in Minnesota. :o :o :o
I met up with Neil shortly after that and we wandered a little longer and then headed over to where the dinner was being held.
There were a fair amount of people there.
The dinner was good, some kind of cold "wheat" salad, green salad that people were picking apart like it was a veggie plate, green beans, little chicken breasts with tiny legs attached, roast beef, little walleye cutlets, dinner rolls, and chicken wild rice soup. Later dessert. And there was an open bar that they gave us tickets for drinks.
After dinner they handed out a couple of awards. One was given to Minnesota's current Lt. Governor who is currently running for the US Senate. Her acceptance speech was a bit much for me, it was more a political stump speech for her campaign.
Then they started to give out the recognition.
Surprisingly there were several people that had 45 years under their belts. We got a very nice "plaque" and a certificate.
And there were even two people that had 50+ years.
Afterward, we wandered back over to the Mall, we parked in their ramp, and I was really naughty. I stopped and got a 4 pack of Cinnabon rolls. SO YUMMY.
I drove home watching the big full moon rising up on the night sky.
In another 4+ months I will see what kind of recognition I will get from the old employer.

Date: 2026-05-04 05:03 pm (UTC)The 'small chicken' was probably either Cornish game hens or quail. They're typically served in that sort of presentation.
