Over 5 years ago, my oldest niece announced she was marrying her girlfriend. My wife and I were very happy for her and told her immediately that we'd be there.

My dad said no way he'd be attending their wedding.

My mom asked if we could take her. Told her no problem.

My brother said he'd like to punch her in the face. Because if she wants to be the man in a marriage, she should be able to take a punch.

I'm not very fond of my brother for quite a number of reasons.

Religion.  Being unaccepting of difference.  Confidence and surety in your moral superiority.  Fear of "the other".  Perhaps "Your being married gay happy reflects badly on me being single and not happy"?  Or some people are just basically screwed up?  I've seen pretty much all of this, frequently several of them in the same person, which is covered in the 'basically screwed up people'.

The simplest definition of Christian is one who follows the teachings of Christ.  You don't have to go lock-step with mainstream "Christian" faith to keep your own beliefs.  Far too many people who claim to be Christian fall far short of what is claimed that Christ taught, but that's something that you and I have oft talked about.

I think I've related this to you before.  My mom wouldn't vote for Hillary because "She should have kicked Bill out of the house because of all of his affairs."  I never asked her how she squared that with all of the philandering that President TACO did.  No idea if she voted for him in '20, and she was gone before '24.

It damn well shocked me!  While he is a high school grad, he's not very well educated and stopped reading not longer after that, 45+ years ago.  He read the paper when he lived with my parents, and online sources, but not books.

I have enough credits for a Masters, but have only earned a pair of Associates and a certificate.

One of my sons is gay and I have always supported him since the day he told me when he was a teenager, so did his dad. He's grown up to be outgoing, happy, intelligent and very amusing. I'm immensely proud of him.
hugs, Holly

I just watched a video today of a Pride parade and the focus was this one young gay man when he saw his parents in the audience. So touching and so important to show acceptance.

Hugs, Helen
