Well, as if I really needed proof that I am persona non grata with my family.....

I followed an email link to somebody's FB post and then I clicked on my home page feed.

Right there at the very top was a picture posted by my older brother's wife, the ones that live here in Stewartville.

It's a picture of my older brother and SIL, their three kids and their grandkids.

The picture was from Christmas Eve.

Then to add insult to injury, my SIL from Georgia commented...

It's so nice to see everyone all together.

I so wanted to reply, "Well, everyone but Jon, apparently".

But it's so not worth the battle.

They can all live their lives and I will live mine.

Yep. The last day before escrow closed on selling my parent's house, my sister and her kids had a "say goodbye to the house" 'ceremony' - on a Saturday. Revisited it, told stories - AND SPREAD MY PARENT'S ASHES AROUND THE PROPERTY. There was no way she was going to talk to my brother about it, but she didn't bother contacting me. Said she didn't think that I'd be interested. And this is after I explicitly told her that I wanted a small amount of their ashes to spread up here.

I love her kids, can't say too much about her.

My sister is very self-focused, and as I no longer live in Phoenix, and with my parents gone, it's just her and her kids.  I guess that's the way it is and shall be.  My brother was very clear last week that I am his sole heir when it comes to his estate, if there's anything significant left of it when he passes.

That's sad, but I guess it's reality. :(

I need to get a will made up and decide what the heck is going to happen to all my stuff and the stuff in the house.
Probably sold and bills paid. :(

You can do a hand-written will, it has to be signed by two witnesses.  If you have a specific disposition of assets, like 'my TV and DVDs all go to Mr. Dream Jeans', then you need to decide stuff like that in advance and state it quite unambiguously in the will.  Since you don't have any direct heirs, or at least none that I think you care anything about, I'd suggest setting up a trust and executor that all your assets are to be sold and the balance given to a charity that you care about.  When you do a will or trust, do your homework and be very explicit listing out any and all bank accounts, credit cards, insurance policies, etc.  Anything that has an auto-renew charge, etc.  I would also put in your LJ/DW/FB/whatever accounts with passwords and instructions for a "I'm dead!" message to be posted and whether the accounts should be kept open, memorialized, or closed and purged.  It's a lot of work, but you start with writing down the steps - not the details - of how you would want your life shut down, then you start filling in the details one step at a time.  THEN you get a lawyer or trustee to review it.  But it's very important that all your accounts get detailed: my dad didn't do that and it caused us a tremendous amount of grief.
