I am thinking that Ida changed her mind.

Just walking Maggie through the cemetery, as I am like to do, and came across a tombstone that showed Ida's birth year as 1875.

Her death year on the other hand says 19__.

So either she changed her mind and got buried some where besides next to her husband or,

Stewartville has the oldest living human being. LOL.......................

The hubby's death year is there though.
Just thought, next time I go out, I need to check the directory sign they have up and see if she's listed on there along with her husband. Must remember to do that. :o

Not uncommon for funerary plans to change or get changed and old plans to be forgotten. It's possible that she or her heirs forgot that she had purchased that plot.

My parents purchased plots in a cemetery where my mom's parents are buried, for them and for my brother and I. Then when mom passed, dad had her cremated. And so was dad. I've long planned on being cremated or some other form of my body not being planted in the ground, perhaps either a composting burial or an aqua cremation which is a pretty cool process. But my sister says that the operators aren't paying much to buy back plots, so it's quite possible those plots will sit there unused proverbially for eternity.

I've noticed quite a few couples buying single plots that I am assuming are for cremated remains for two people.

Are you allowed to sell the plots to somebody other then the cemetery?

I'm pretty sure you can.  Owning the plot is owning a plot: the contract should be transferable.
