A Day In The Life.....
Nov. 23rd, 2024 11:00 pmFriday and the Vet Visit.......
First, sorry, but I am so far behind after the vet visit. :o
Anyway, I got Maggie packed up in the car and off to the vet we went.
We got checked in and just like the doctor's office, Maggie has to step on the scale. She weighed 80.5 lbs.
That's down quite a bit from years gone by when she was a shade over 100 lbs.
After waiting a bit we got called into the exam room and the assistant did the preliminary stuff.
Maggie was so excited to have somebody new to get attention from and the assistant said she just loves Goldens. Easy to see why. :)
Eventually the vet came in and we went over the symptoms, the diarrhea, the cough, and sadly, the cut on her leg.
Side Story: I didn't want to look like a really bad Fur Daddy who doesn't groom his baby and so I decide to trim some of the matted hair she has. Only to prove I am a horrible Fur Daddy by cutting her leg while trying to cut off the matted fur. :( :( :(
They tried to assure me that it wasn't a bad cut and that it wasn't bad of me.
Anyway, the vet suggested doing some blood work and some xrays. I agreed, but at the same time inside my head I was seeing big time dollar signs. :o :o :o
I also asked if they could trim a dew claw that was nearly grown around on itself. I am a massive chicken when it comes to the thought of trimming Maggie's nails. :p They said sure. So more dollar signs in my head. :o :o :o
So they took Maggie away to do all these things.
She came back with shorter nails, they did them all I believe. :)
Vet came in and said I should just clean the cut with some hydrogen peroxide a couple of times a day.
The blood work came back negative for heart worm and one or two other things.
The xrays didn't show anything really wrong inside. :)
So like most doctor's visits, nothing really found.
He did order some antibiotics and said that it would also help with the cut on her leg too. :)
He said we could maybe do a test of her stool if/when she has diarrhea again.
Over all he was happy with Maggie.
And Maggie was ecstatic with all the attention. lol...
Then it came time to pay the bill. Drum roll please.......
I do have to say, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Expensive, yes, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
It was just a shade shy of $500. :o
Paid the bill thanks to Mr. VISA and loaded Maggie back into the car and off we went. Stopped and filled up the gas tank on the way home.
Got home and did a potty break and got Maggie into the house.
She went in and plopped down on the hardwood floor next to the kitchen carpet, so I pulled her over to the carpet because she can't get herself standing on the hardwoods. I tried to get her over to the area rug in the living room with a treat biscuit, but she wouldn't move, so I gave it to her and then tried another one and she wouldn't move. I left the biscuit laying in the living room and went to bed. I woke up a few hours later and Maggie was still laying where I had left her.
I got dressed and called her to go outside. She got up and went over and drank some water and then ate most of her food that had been sitting there since Thursday and she was ready to go outside. She peed and gave me a soft formed poo, and I was happy. :)
Then today when I had her out, I got to thinking. She had diarrhea that's better now, and now you put her on antibiotics. What do antibiotics do to a lot of people? Gives 'em diarrhea? UGH... Hopefully that's not the case with Maggie. :o
So long story lone, Maggie will hopefully be feeling a lot better soon. :)

Date: 2024-11-24 10:51 am (UTC)You are a good fur-dad.
My Frankie's vet visits this year both cost me $1000.00 oy. If I ever get another pet I am going to see about pet insurance. It's not for regular shots and check ups, but it is good for the extra unexpected things and illnesses.

Date: 2024-11-29 09:54 am (UTC)When I got my last dog, I looked into insurance, but back then it really wasn't much of anything.
I WISH I had gotten it with Maggie. Sure would have helped with her two surgeries. :o

Date: 2024-11-24 06:32 pm (UTC)I'm planning on buying three bathroom rugs for the kitchen and another for the bathroom as traction pads for Dante. He's frequently splaying out as the pads on his feet are just not giving him traction on linoleum. Also, we have a heavy bath towel we keep handy for covering up our hound Rupert. You might consider that for Maggie. When they curl up, a standard towel might do, but she's bigger than Rupert.

Date: 2024-11-29 10:02 am (UTC)There is an area rug in the living room so she usually will lay on that or in her kennel that has the sleeping "bed". :)
