Apr. 9th, 2024 09:49 amLast Thursday and yesterday I went to the movies.
I saw a really good movie and a great movie.
*Thursday night I saw a new movie, "Wicked Little Letters".
It takes place in a small English village in the 1920s and is based on a true event.
Villagers start to receive vulgar hateful letters in the mail.
Who's to blame? Well let's blame the Irish emigrant widow who has a very colorful mouth.
They arrest her and charge her with sending the letters.
But then a lady police officer, who of course at that time is treated like a secretary, and a couple of local ladies decide she is innocent and start their own investigate to prove it.
No more so I don't spoil anything if you decide to see it, and I do recommend seeing it. :)
*Monday night I went to a classic, and the movie I have always said is my all time favorite.
"Gone With The Wind".
Epic Costume Drama.
This is the 85th Anniversary of the movie, and earlier in the year I saw "The Wizard of Oz" also celebrating it's 85th Anniversary.
"GWTW" has an amazing cast.
Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Hattie McDaniel, Butterfly McQueen,
Cancel Culture of course hates it because it doesn't show slaves being beaten and treated horribly, but IMHO, it's not a movie about slavery, it's a movie about a strong willed woman who does what she has to do to get what she wants in life. If you want a slavery movie, then watch "12 Years a Slave". They are two completely different things.
Even in the introduction by Leonard Maltin they had to make the point, it wasn't okay to make the movie they way they did back then, and it's not okay now. I think it's like saying, This is a bad movie, but now watch this great movie.
Some times a movie is just entertainment and not a history lesson.
Okay off my soapbox.
This Thursday I am going to The Guthrie for some live entertainment with my friend Neil,
mrdreamjeans.
They are presenting the three History Plays by Shakespeare.
I believe we are seeing "Henry V".

I didn't always understand everything that was being said because Shakespeare is not easy, but I did follow the overall story with no real problems. :)

Date: 2024-04-13 12:40 am (UTC)In the theater I would guess about 4 times.
Ever, I have no idea. LOL...
Many years ago I was working on the pediatric floor one night it was a really small station.
Usually just running with a nurse and an aide.
They had a vcr set up that they would watch movies at night if it was quiet. One night I was there it was quiet and I popped The Wizard of Oz into the machine and watched it. Unbeknownst to me the machine was set up to repeat, and so I just watched it a second time. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Henry V was really good.
I didn't always follow the dialogue, but I did follow the over all story. :)
I hope you can see Wicked Little Letters. :)
I'm glad I stumbled across it when I did, because I think it's out of our theater already. :o
I looked to see if there was anything worth going to this weekend, and nothing attracted me. Blah...

Date: 2024-04-14 12:01 pm (UTC)I met this woman at a yoga workshop, I think in 2014 that has seen the movie 350 times, whoa!
I think the movie I have watched the most is The Big Chill and Moonstruck.
Henry V... yes hard to follow some of those dialogues. I wonder if that is the same Henry V I see on some streaming channel...hmm.
