The San Diego zoo has some very old and large Galapagos tortoises and years ago the fence was low and you could walk up and scratch the undersides of their neck and they loved it and all came over for a neck scratch. But now the fence is higher, too much hate out there.

The last time I was out to Rapid City at Reptile Gardens they had a couple of big tortoises.
I can't remember if you were allowed to get up close to them or not. I think you could at one time.

They are thankfully, mostly behind glass, but they do have one area that there are snakes out in the open. :o :o :o

That is just not right. LOL!!!!

Not quite that close. lol...
It's a walk through area with orchids and other plants, and then some snakes curled up in the big plants and some tropical birds as well.

Hmmm, I still feel apprehensive about that. :-o
I remember going to the San Diego zoo and there was a zookeeper walking around with this snake and he pretty much made me pet it. I thought that was so mean. LOL!!!!!!

I consider myself quite brave walking through there because I HATE snakes.
I walk in the room and start looking to see where the snakes are and then I cautiously walk past those areas. lol....
If the snake is big enough that I can touch it and not be near the head, I will attempt, but otherwise I am good at looking from afar. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
