Okay, actually it's a few days in the life...

I was supposed to work this past weekend, but I ended up calling in sick all three nights.
As some of you might remember, for the past 10-15 years I have had a dizzy/balance problem. Well, since Friday it's been slapping me upside the head, so to speak. There were a few times I thought I was going to pass out.
So Monday morning I called the doc's office to see if I could see him or somebody else. At first they were like, we don't have anything available today. Tomorrow....
I said, the problem is I am on jury duty summons, so I might not be able to come in tomorrow.
Suddenly she's like well, I have a 7:40 appointment, and 8:10 appointment and a 4 pm appointment.
I said, well seeing as it's 7:40 right now, that one won't work. I can probably make the 8:10 time.
Got off the phone and started getting dressed. Called the neighbor to see if she could possibly take Maggie out for me. She was 10 minutes away from an online meeting so she couldn't. Her kids had left for school already, but her husband had just gone in the shower, so she said she would see if he could.
I told her thank you, and he can't, hopefully Maggie will forgive me when I got home.
I literally walked up to the check in desk at 8:10. Of course 8:10 was just check in, my appointment was 8:30.
When I finally saw the doctor, not my regular guy of course, we went through symptoms, and history, and an exam. He was like between the exam and your history, I would like to go talk to one of the "experts", aka a neuro doc about things, can you wait. I said sure.
He eventually comes back and tells me they think I have Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.
YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????
And there are a couple of things we can do.
1. We can send you to the procedural clinic to do such and such. Words meant nothing for me. lol...
2. And/or we could repeat the MRI of your head to check the growth in your brain.
I said I might as well go to the procedural clinic and do that, and as much as I want to say yes, let's do another MRI, in my head I don't wanna pay for another one.
So the doc said, let's set you up for the procedural clinic and we can hold the MRI if you want to do it later, just call your primary doctor and tell him to read Dr. Franz's note.
LOL... I have to laugh because although this doc doesn't think the growth should be causing problems, he thinks it couldn't hurt to check it out again. Back when I had the MRI done, I was told it's not the cause of my problem and there is not need to do any follow up. REALLY? It's a growth in my head. :o
Anyway, so I stopped at the desk to get an appointment for the procedural clinic. 3:40 pm for a 4 pm appointment.
I went home and it looked like they had taken Maggie out, but I took her out again.
Then I went to bed to try and get a nap before the next appointment. I MAYBE got short of 2 hours of nap, but I think I was awake for most of that time, so I just got up and waited to go in.
The appointment at the procedural clinic was IMHO a joke. It was basically a physical therapy session that easily could have been done at the other doctor appointment. They taught me an "exercise" that is meant to try and move the crystals in my ear to move back where they should be and stop my brain from thinking I was still moving around. The appointment lasted maybe 15-20 minutes. I can't wait to see what they charge me for that.
Anyway, I am to do this "exercise" twice a day. In the process of doing it, it induces the vertigo head spinning feeling. So much fun. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am suppose to give it a few days and if things aren't improving I can contact my primary care doc and go from there.
So tonight, I am going back to work. Wish me luck. :o :o :o

On the jury front, nothing Monday or Tuesday and when I called tonight for Wednesday, the message was we don't need anybody for the rest of the week, and you are done with your summons time. Oh well.....

After that I took Maggie out to do her duty and got caught in a down pour. We both came back drenched.
I know it's silly to complain when I was planning to come back and jump in the shower, but there is a difference between a warm shower and a cold rain. lol...

Anyway, I just want to warn you all, I might be falling behind on my journal reading because I am just going to try and get as much sleep/napping done as possible. :o :o :o
Sorry, that wasn't short. lol.....

I'm surprised they're having you do the head-turning thing on your own. I had vertigo quite a while back and the ENT did the head-turning trick and made me sleep upright for a couple days to encourage the crystals settle in the right place.

Ear rocks. You have ear rocks. My wife has had ear rocks for quite some years. And yes, the exercises are a nuisance, but they are effective and it's a condition that can be treated without medicine or surgery.

See an ENT and tell them what you have and ask if they can help you, a GP isn't going to be much help. There are handouts that will help. The problem is that it's possible to have crystals in multiple canals at the same time and both ears involved simultaneously, which makes the exercises a bit trickier. And worse, if it goes unresolved for a longer period of time, your brain will reprogram itself to be less dependent on your ears for balance, and then you're screwed when it comes to places like movie theaters where it's dark and you have ramps and hand rails and many things that are not at right angles!

I ended up borrowing a medical school-grade text book for Russet, Vestibular Rehabilitation via interlibrary loan since that's my job. They probably have it at the Mayo medical library. It has a flow chart that shows 'for these symptoms, do this exercise'.

She suggests the Wikipedia article on it as being good, but not complete. Much better than when her problem developed initially.

But see an ENT ASAP!!!

You're welcome!  I've seen what my wife went through, and goes through occasionally, very important to see the proper specialist ASAP.  But once you understand the problem and master the exercises, you can identify what canal the rocks are in, do the proper exercise(s), and fix yourself!  She's seen two doctors, both my ENTs.  That, and the book that I borrowed via ILL.

Gotta make sure you do those exercises!  You're fighting your brain, so yeah, that's probably the reason why you're feeling dizzy.  The exercises will help you control the ear rocks, but your brain wants to redo your balance control, so you've got a bit of a war going on in yer noggin'!  One thing to be careful of is walking down grocery store aisles, believe it or not.  Russet had a terrible time if the shelves on one side were spaced different than the shelves on the other.

I know you like going to movies, be VERY careful in theaters!  All those unusual geometries can really screw with you.
