How old can chocolate be and you will still eat it?
I have been trying to "clean" the house and sort through things and I came across an unopened box of chocolates that I must have bought at Disney World on one of my trips there.
First trip was 2006 and the last one was 2015.
I could smell the minty chocolateness through the packaging.
So as we all do, I did a google to see how old chocolate can be and still be edible.
I like how you can ask a question and you get all those bonus questions usually related to your topic.
Well, one of those bonus questions was, "Can you eat 30 year old chocolate?"
Surprisingly, the answer was, in a nutshell, if it smells good and looks good, aka no cracks or slimy white "mold", yes, you can eat 30 year old chocolate.
So the question begs, do I dare eat this chocolate?
Assuming it meets the criteria? I haven't opened the package yet.
My chocolate would be between 8 and 18 years old. :o

Date: 2023-03-13 03:26 pm (UTC)Personally, I'd eat one on a Friday (or the equiv of your work week) and see how it goes. If no problems by Monday, they're good.
It would also depend on the quality/expense of the chocolate, IMO. If it's cheap-ass chocolate like Hershey's, I'd toss it.
